if u don't know what Activate is look it up or you'll be confused
I walked through the aisles of the grocery store, sighing every couple minutes.
Of course, the one day this week I had off besides Billie's birthday, she wasn't around. So, I had to entertain myself.
No, that's wrong. I shouldn't rely on Billie to keep me happy, I chided myself, annoyed that I was beginning to think that way.
Not that I didn't want to see her always, every day, constantly. But it was wrong of me to expect Billie to cure all my problems, and unfair for her.
I miss her, I thought hopelessly, upset to admit it to myself. It's been less than 3 hours and I already miss her. I'm so done for.
I sighed again, jumping as someone directly behind me said;
"Wow, you sound disappointed," I whipped around, having to crane my neck up to see another girl who looked my age-ish, with a wavy, short, sort of mullet style haircut that was a dark brown. She had to have been almost 6 feet, if not that. She was dressed in an oversized, black, white and gray knitted sweater with some words on it I couldn't read, plain black sweatpants, and black and white Adidas.
"I'm just bored. Don't have anything much to do today," I admitted, heat creeping up my neck in embarrassment.
"Oh, really? You should hang with me, then," A lazy smile crept up her face, confidence radiating off of her in waves.
"Um, th-that's okay, but thanks," I tried to slip past her, but she held out her arm to block me.
"Wait, wait. C'mon, you haven't got anything to do, I haven't got anything to do. Just give me half an hour, I'll take us to this place called Activate. You can trust me, I swear. Besides, I wanna get a cutie's number," She winked at me, reassuring me that she meant me.
"I'm taken," I responded dryly, thinking of Billie. I mean, we weren't together yet, and we haven't talked about our feelings for each other... but there's definitely something there and I wasn't interested in this buff, extraordinarily tall and athletic looking girl... no matter how hot she was...
The girl didn't look the least bit fazed. "Alright, alright, I accept that. I'm not trying to be a homewrecker. But there's nothing wrong with being friends, right? Half an hour," She reminded me, holding out her hand for me to shake.
I looked at her hand, thinking. "What's your name?"
"Alexandra. But just call me Alex, please. And yours?" Her lips twisted up into a crooked little smile.
I took her hand and shook it once. I need friends. "Willow,"
"Nice to meet you Willow, now c'mon, let's go have fun!"

I'd been to Activate once before this time, for a birthday party about a year ago or so. I'd been shocked to be invited, and it had ended up being one of the best times of my life.
This time was just as fun. Alex had called up one of her guy friends, who she immediately assured me was gay, to come play with us as well so we had enough players.
By the time we finished with our initial hour, Alex went and bought us an extra half an hour. It was awesome, and Alex's friend Carter was such a fun guy to be around. He was very funny and witty, and the first thing he said to me made me laugh. I felt like, finally, for the first time in my life, I was making friends that actually cared.
Alex offered to drop us both off at our homes. We dropped off Carter first. He was almost 25 and he still lived with his parents, which of course I teased him about. I was feeling much more confident with people now, and I think it was partially because of Billie. But also, the atmosphere at the time just made it feel so easy.
We reached my apartment twenty minutes later.
"This was really fun Alex, thank you," I said sincerely, preparing to leave the car.
Alex smiled. "'Course. I enjoyed it. Before you leave, gimmie your number,"
I hesitated, getting flashbacks to when Billie and I met. In the end, I handed my phone over and waited.
"You better text me cuz we gotta hang again soon, you're a chill person to be around," She said as she gave my phone back.
I blushed a bit at the compliment, turning my head to hide it. "You are, too. Okay, I should go, see you another time!" I exited the car, running quickly to the door since it was cold out and I hadn't felt like putting it back on after being all sweaty from Activate.
As soon as I was in my apartment, I plopped myself in my chair and eagerly texted Billie about my success.
