'Great job guys! Keep up working hard like this.'
Minyoung praised them after reading the results of the five days.
Jennifer happily smiled at Jungwon, as it was mostly thanks to him, but as he was approaching her, Soojin came out of nowhere and took her away, to a place they could talk more comfortably.'So? What's this story that those three asked you to sit at lunch with them?'
She sat on the couch where they always stayed for the breaks.'Soojin...we have to work, let's talk later' but the girl stopped her from getting up and shook her head.
'You said that 2 days ago, and I still don't have an explanation. Monday I don't work and Tuesday you don't work. At school we didn't have much times either as every girl have been paying more attention to you from that day you sat with them, and they eavesdrop on your conversations when they have the chance to, so now is the best moment.'
She was so detailed that it made her friend laugh, at her "insisting" side
'Okay okay, you won' the girl went back to her seat and sat properly.'I have question for you too' Jennifer said with the vivid memory of seeing her with a guy 'Who goes first?' She asked, as her friend grinned at her. 'Why were you sitting with them at lunch? Jihan told me it wasn't the first time Jake approached you. Is there something going on?' she smirked at her innocent friend, who raised an eyebrow.
'Nothing's going on, they wanted just to know me better, that's all.' She shrugged, but Soojin wasn't that convince yet. 'Is that what they said? Like isn't it odd that three strangers, let's add really attractive guys, new in the campus, immediately talk-' Jennifer shook her head, knowing where she was going with her words, into a romantic direction.
'No, I met them in the bus in their first day, and we started talking as we realized we go to the same school' She expained adding the details.
Soojin squinted her eyes, trying to see if Jennifer was lying.
'Kinda makes sense. Jihan has told me something about this.' She nodded in the end, giving up.'What did you wanted to ask me?' The student's president took a sip from the tea of the nearby machine, that she prepare after the two sat down. 'I saw you in the store with a guy, I would say a week ago or something...are you guys dating?'
When hearing the mention of a "guy", her eyes widened. She then dropped the cup on the table as she blushed slightly and coughed a little.
'Are you okay?' Jennfier questioned her friend with a small smile, having half an idea of why she was acting up.'Yes, perfectly fine. The tea was too hot. And that was...that was the guy I was talking about the to you girls.' she said. 'We've been seeing chatting for a few weeks now and recently decided to go on a second date. We first went to a coffe bar and then to buy some bottle of water, as we were feeling thirsty' Jennifer raise her eyebrow, and couldn't hide her surprise...'why a supermarket thought and not buy the water there instead?'
'You know what they say, if he's the one, he will say yes even to your silliest requests.' She winked at Jennifer, as if she readed her mind, noticing her face visibly astonished, after hearing the reason for going to the store. 'And besides I don'tlike wasting time' She shrugged, while the aspirant detective nodded.
'I thought you were buying some ingredients to cook at home, like...a house date or a picnic' her friend shook her head, perplexed by the assumption.'With this variable weather a picnic? The house date doesn't sound bad though' She smiled at Soojin, while she saw her thinking about it.
'Well, I'm really happy for you, hope that if things get more serious, we will meet him' Soojin laughed. 'Me too! And sure we'll see about that.'
After their conversation, they went back to their respective departments.
The first person to greet her, was Jihoon, who has been waiting for her to comeback since she was dragged away. The same goes for Jungwon that was starring from afar.'You and Soojin seem really close, are you friends?' He asked sitting next to her. 'Yes, we go to the same university.' With the corner of her eyes, she noticed the blonde girl watching them like a hawk. After everything that had happened, she totally forgotten about her. They chatted more, and then all went back to their work.
Some time had passed and it was already time to go home. She greeted everyone farewells and went to the bus stop.
Outside the temperature seemed like becoming more and more cold, but that day seemed to be warmer than the other.
Beneath the dim glow of a flickering streetlight, her fingers tapping across the screen of her phone. As she scrolled through her contacts to find Mrs. Joy's one. Jennifer couldn't remember the last time they spent some time together and she was starting to miss her a lot. Then as she was writing something, she suddenly felt someone sitting beside her. Looking to her side, she saw an older man, on his 60s.
The man was frail and thin, his eyes sunken deep in his skin. His wrinkled face was etched with a lifetime of stories, but his expression was devoid of warmth or kindness. He wore a threadbare hanbok, it's once-vibrant colors now faded and worn into the night.
'Good evening' he said, and so she replied saying the same thing with a smile. After that small action of courtesy, she went back to minding her business, but after some time, she felt him still starring at her, a thing that made her anxious. She began to feel very uncomfortable and with a trembling hand, she grabbed her bag, stood up abruptly and left.
She didn't look back as she made her way down the dark, deserted street. The sound of her own footsteps echoed through the silence, amplifying her growing panic. Every shadow seemed to take on a sinister form, every sound a potential threat.
As she began to walk further away, Jennifer couldn't shake the distinct feeling that she was being followed. She glanced behind her but there was no one.
She then speed up with her walking, when hearing a sound behind her, but then, someone grabbed her hand by the wrist, making her flich in surprise and fear. Fortunately her mouth didn't made a sound, because when she turned around, to her greatest relief, it was none other than Jungwon.
'Oh it's you' his sight almost instantly made her mussels relax, while her heart that almost stopped beating, could gradually go back to normal, as she held her chest. 'You forgot your purse at work' He said, handing her the colored object. She thanked him, still catching her breath from earlier events.
'Did I scare you?' He raised an eyebrow, and couldn't hide his amused smile at her being scared for such trivial things. 'Yes! Next time call out my name, text me or something' She glared at him. He laughed as he looked at her.
She thanked him again, and before she could leave, he offered her a ride home. After experiencing that kind of scary moment, she wasn't so hesitant, and instantly agreed.
The ride was pleasant and surprisingly calming. She felt comfortable and relieved to have made it home safely in his company.
When they arrived, Jennifer thanked Jungwon for the third time and as she was going toward the entrance, he turned around.
'Hey...if you need a ride home, you can always asked me anytime' he smiled. As he wasn't wearing the helmet, it was easy to see. Her lips curled up as she thank him again. Then he turn on the engene, and as he was about to leaves, she remembered something.'Oh, wait Jungwon!' He immediately stopped and turned around to meet her eyes. She had just realized something. 'Hand me your phone' the boy didn't question much himself on why, and did as she asked, still much confused. 'Here you go, now you have my number. Write me if you need anything okay?'
He nodded, and before he could leave, she gestured to him to wear the helmet to be safe on his journey home, and then mounted goodnight, as he watch her finally take her leave.
