The morning started a bit rough for Jennifer as the night before, she couldn't fall asleep due to the doubts and fear she had for this new part of her job. After the sleepless night, she had to go to university.
Walking in the campus, as she made her way heavily down her path, suddenly someone called her name. 'Hey Jennifer,' she halted her walk, slowly turning around. 'Looks like you didn't have much sleep last night,' Jake pointed out after they greeted each other. Jennifer simply shrugged. 'Kind of,' a yawn excaped her lips.
They walked silently to their classes. 'Where are Jay and Sunghoon?' After minutes, she had realized that the surroundings were too quiet, and as there weren't many people outside, she noticed their absence. 'They are already in class.' The answer made the girl raise an eyebrow. 'This early?' Now it was Jake's turn to look at her weirdly.
'It's almost 8 o'clock, obviously they are there already.' She checked the time on her wristwatch, and her jawl dropped.
All this time, she thought she was early as usual, maybe It was the fact that she may have overslept and even came to school with legs, an attempt to hold herself awake. 'I thought it was 7:30' she faced palmed herself a thing that made Jake burst into laughter. 'It shows that you are not fully awake yet' he chuckled.
They finally arrived in front of her class and as they were about to part ways, Jake called out to her once again. 'Hey, hut seriously try not to sleep in class. See you later.' Surprised by his sudden worry, she nodded before flashing him a smile. 'Try not to outsmart the teacher in class,' he frowned playfully. 'I don't know what you mean.' It was well known by now that the three flawless guys were even good in studies. Jake was the best in english, Jay in criminal laws, and Sunghoon in criminal psychology, a thing that drove their popularity to the moon.
Forunately for Jennifer, her first course of the day was history, a subject that she would usually be delighted to attend to, and counting that the teacher had a very unique and vibrant way of teaching, she knew she was in safe hands. This was her thought until at the desk there was an old woman that she's never seen before.
'Who is she?' Jennifer asked one of her female classmates seated in front of her. 'She's Mrs Han. She once used to be a teacher here but had to step down because of her pregnancy. She still loved this school so after some years that her son grew enough to attend school, she decided to come back and work her as the librarian here and they sometimes use her as a substitute teacher when there is the need' after hearing the story, Jennifer thanked her, before falling into her thoughts.
A tired person that didn't sleep, plus the calming and sweet voice of a grandmother could be only recipy for disaster. 'Hello sweethearts, I'm Han Seoha your substitute teacher for today. To begin, you will listen to this poem written by an Italian author'
The lession went on, as the sleepy girl tried her best to stay awake and when the bell finally rang, signaling the next hour which was a free period, she was the first one to take her bag and dash out to the room, straight to the library, where she could have tried to get ahead with an essay that was due the next day.
Meanwhile, even Sunghoon, Jay and Jake had a free period at the same time as her and were still in class as the others had already left.
'Doesn't Jennifer have a free period now as well?' The shortest among them asked 'And how do you know that Jake?' Jay raised an eyebrow suspiciously eyeing him. 'I looked up her schedule to see if we had anything in common and be able to spend more time with her. Simple,' he scoffed, shrugging his shoulders with a smile, as if that was something perfectly normal.'O...kay?. Let's ask her a calculator for Jake and then make up an excuse to bring her along.' The guys with the sharp jawl proposed
Sunghoon immediately stood up from his seat. 'I'll go find her.' He was already halfway out the door before the other guys could respond.
He went to her class but didn't find her there, so he decided to use his super vampire senses, which helped him detect her scent. His heart for odd reasons thumped a little faster as he finally reached the library. The familiar tranquillity washed over him, calming his nerves. He had been there twice for assignments with his two brothers. Scanning the rows of bookshelves, his eyes seeking out the familiar figure of Jennifer. There she was, slumped in a chair, her head resting on a book, her hair falling around her face.
Sunghoon's initial concern in seeing her like that quickly turned into a strange heat as he approached her and pulled the seat next to her. His initial thought was to wake her up, but he remembered that Jake had told them earlier that day that she hadn't slept the night before.
A soft sigh escaped his lips, and he found himself pulling up a chair, settling down beside her. Not wanting to disturb her sleep, but a strange urge to stay close, to simply watch her, held him captive.
He saw her often, of course, but there was something about this moment that was just different. He nerve saw her relax without anything troubling her mind. But a thing was sure, it was undeniable that this made his heart skip a beat.He gently removed a loose strand of hair from her cheek, the feel of her soft skin brushing against his fingers, sending a jolt through him. Her face was peaceful, her lips slightly parted as she slept. He couldn't help but admire her. "How cute," a thought that passed through his mind.
Sunghoon then layed on the table as well, spending a moment simply observing her. The soft rise and fall of her body, the way her hair caught the faint light filtering from the window.
Minutes stretched into what felt like hours. The faint ticking of the clock, the hushed murmur of other students, it all seemed to disappear as he watched her sleep. He couldn't explain this sudden and inexplicable pull towards her. It was something not that new that he had been ignoring for a while, something that he couldn't quite understand.
Suddenly, Jennifer stirred, her eyes fluttering open. She slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes, which afterwards she looked around, a bit confused, and then her gaze landed on Sunghoon. A wave of surprise flooded through her as she realized where she was and who was sitting beside her. In that moment, she lost her balance, and almost fell backwards, but Sunghoon was quick to put his hand on the backrest of her chair, stopping her from falling and pulling her up so quickly that she found herself inches away from Sunghoon's face. She scooted back immediately, her heart beating faster.
'Sunghoon?! What are you doing here?' She said a bit too loud, forgetting that they were in a library, getting some 'Shh' in return from the other students.
He cleared his throat, trying to remember the reason he was there in the first place. 'Jake needs a calculator.' He excaped her eyes for a moment, unable to meet her gaze. 'We thought you might have one.'
'Oh,' she mumbled, her voice soft, with a sense of disorientation washing over her as they locked eyes. The warmth of his presence, the unexpected closness, left her with mixed feelings. She was still a bit sleepy, her mind clouded by the remnants of her sleep, but something about Sunghoon's presence, his gentle gaze, made her feel surprisingly awake.
They both stood, the awkwardness of the situation thick in the air. As they walked out of the library, in complete silence.
'What's up with those two?' Jake asked once they arrived at their classroom without looking at each other. 'Indeed, it looks like something happened.' Jay eyed the two of them with a grin. 'I knew Sunghoon shouldn't have went, he can be awkward at times with ladies.' Jake shrugged, stating that for him it was the absolute truth.
'We can hear you,' Sunghoon commented with a bit of annoyance in his tone. While Jennifer laughed at the sight. 'I'm just still sleepy, that's why,' she replied, covering her mouth as a yawn threatened to escape.
