The air hung heavy with the scent of roasted beans and sugar, a sweet aroma in the dimly lit coffee shop. Jennifer, was sitting on a plush velvet armchair, adjusted her scarlet beret and tapping her finger against the table, a faint clicking sound echoing through the hushed conversation of the people. Her eyes scanned the entrance, waiting the arrival of someone or to be precise two people.

'Ah, there they are!' she whispered, a smile blooming on her face.

Soojin and Jihan, two vibrant girls whose laughter could rival the squaelling tires of a car burst through the door, their faces flushed with excitement. Jihan, for the first time with her hair being more curlier than usual and a smile as bright as the sun, was the first to run up to Jennifer, her voice a melodious sound.

'Jen, you're early! We're so excited for today!' An elegant figure with eyes that sparkled like dimonds, followed close behind. 'We're going to have a blast!' Soojin declared, already reaching for the menu.

'Indeed,' Jennifer agreed, her voice joyful. 'We deserve it. Let's raise a toast to our new found independence, to the thrill of earned coins, to the liberty of our own life!'

The student's president giggled. 'You sound like a pirate Jihan, but I like it!' She said with a smile.'Let's get this party started,' Jennifer chimed in, her eyes gleaming with happiness. 'What's the gossip, Jen? Any new leads on that mysterious case of the man you've been investigating?'

Jennifer's mood switched. With eyes narrowed, her gaze shifting to the street outside, a hint of hesitation in her voice as she thought of the answer. 'We are not really sure yet, but he may be part of a group of thives. I think we are closer to the truth than we think.'

Soojin, the most practical among the three, raised an eyebrow. 'That was fast. Before your arrival the investigation department would stay almost a month in a difficult case'

'I don't want to take the glory, even Jungwon has been of a lot of help' Jennifer countered, her voice getting quieter.

'Okay, okay,' Jihan interjected, her voice bubbling with laughter. 'Enough with the detective stuff for now, let's talk about a different topic, like who is this Jungwon?' she asked with curiousity.

'He's a guy working in my same team' The brunette remained vague, but the happy virus wasn't going to settle for such small answer 'And how is he?' she asked with a grin.

'He's tall, quite good-looking, has a good sense of humor and he's really smart' Jennifer talked without thinking, a thing she soon regretted. The doll like girl narrowed her eyes at her description.
'I told you to be careful about that guy.' she folded her arms to her chest 'And I did, kinda...okay I didn't.'

'Jennifer!' Soojin frowned 'Everytime a girl talks to him it feels like she's enchanted and that's strange' the tall brunette added. 'But we are in the same team, we surely have to talk, besides he's a very good guy and you've never even talk to him!' As she spoke, her friends exchanged looks, speaking with their eyes.

'Do you pharpes like this guy?' Soojin asked as she couldn't hide the surprise in her voice. The girl immidiately denied it, but they couldn't have believe her less than that.
'Don't deny it, it shows by the way you are tallking about him' Jihan grinned, nodding at her own statement.

As Jennifer tried to defend herself but the two didn't listen. 'What's about you and that guy...Wooyoung?' She deflected the attention to Soojin who immidiately stopped laughing and turned red. 'I-em...' she stuttered 'Wait, so Soojin is seeing a guy named Wooyoung?' luckyly for her the waitress arrived with their order, making the topic drop.

'We'll be going back on that later, but now girls,' Jihan interjected, her eyes twinkling. 'Let's not forget the main reason for this outing. We're here to celebrate our new found freedom. Let's raise a glass... or a coffee, if you prefer, to the power of hard work and future achievements. Cheers!' they toasted. 'Since when do you speak so sophisticated?' Soojin raised an eyebrow once again looking at the girl with a smirk 'Do you mean I can't be sophisticated?' She tried to sound more offended than what her acting skills could show.

The two looked at eachother, as the most caothic contunied her act, making them laugh. Soon Jihan joined as well and laughters filled their surroundings.

'All three with a job is amazing' Jihan happily said, her eyes twinkling. 'Yeah, now we can finally pay off those monstrous student loans.' Jennifer laughed 'I've already paid half of the semester, still have halft to go. What about you guys....' the brunette smile slowly faded as the two looked at each other quietly.

'Oh...sorry I fogot that-yeah um...you guys don't have that problem' she tried keeping a cheerful mood, as that question landed 'Your parents don't help you?' the shortested asked not really thinking that it could be a sensitive topic.

Soojin Immidiately sensed Jennifer's mood change at the mention of the word parents 'Karaoke!' The student's president declared, changing the topic. 'Let's do that. After all, it was part of our plans for today!'

'Yeah let's try it out' Jihan cheerfully got up. She was a bit forward as the charismatic girl waited for her friend to get up, as she was deep in her thoughts.
'Jennifer' she called her name a few times.

Only when she tapped her, the tallest got a response. 'We are going for the karaoke.' seeing how Jennifer was feeling, as it was visible in her change of demeanour, Soojin added 'Singing can be quite therapeutic, you know.' She gave Jennifer a knowing smile, hoping to comfort her a little. She didn't know what was going on with her friend, but wanted somehow to help.

'Thank you' Jennifer smiled back with gratitude as she walked in front of her 'Jen wait' she abruptly stopped 'Yeah?' Looking at her with confusion as the girl hesitated. 'Listen...actually the only reason I dislike Jungwon is because he's handsome and in the past I had a bad experience with this type of guys, but if he makes you happy then I'm not going to interfere' the young detective looked at her with an eyebrow up then bursted into laughters.

'As I said earlier, I don't like him, but thank you for telling me. Now I understand a bit better and don't worry, I promise I will be still careful. Does that make you less worried?' She grinned, waiting for an answer from her, that immidiately hugged her as a response. 'Absolutely'. As they drifted apart, Jihan called their names 'Girls, why are you still there?' they giggled as they hurriedly catch up with her, apologising for taking too long.

Arriving in the second floor they walked trough the stairs to the next floor of the building, which had a karaoke lounge. Moving in the corridor, looking for the room 221, while the sound of off-key singing, coming from the other rooms, filled the air.

'Okay, I want to be first! Do you guys know this song?' Jihan excitedly got up from the seat, taking the panel of music control. After her, Soojin went next and she and the light brown haired girl had a blast, singing unseriously and tried to make Jennifer join as well, but didn't work that well, as she wasn't feeling like it, besides, she never liked nor tried singing before.

From there the afternoon unfurled like a butter on bread, each moment a precious gem in their shared memories. From gossipy whispers to belted-out karaoke tunes, their energy flowed like a vibrant river. Jen giggled, looking at her friends having fun and acting crazy, her eyes a reflection of her happiness. She never thought she would have friends, but with new things, problems always follow.
