The next morning, she woke up feeling happy. The day before had started decently, went a bit bad in the middle, and ended up...pretty well.
She went to the kitchen, still thinking about what had happened after dinner.Jennifer sighed, cheking her phone one last time. No messages or notifications.
She stood close to a streetlight and tried calling a cab.
After dropping the call, where they said that they would have called her back as soon as possible, she checked if he had sent her something one last time, but still nothing...no response. While doing so, at first she didn't notice the guy standing not too far her, but as she looked around, she recognized him. He was there, wearing a leather jacked, with his hair nicely combed and in place with gell, looking more handsome than what he already was.
'Jungwon...I thought you said you couldn't make it' she frowned, visibly confused, once he was close to her. 'Yeah, sorry about that,' he apologized. 'Is everything all right?' Her voice had a hint of concern while she scanned him to see if anything was different.
'Yes, just a family thing came up.' He shrugged, then smiled at her. They stayed there, staring at each other for a brief moment, without saying a word.
'Why are you -' 'You look -' they voiced their thoughts at the same time breaking the silence.
Two of them exchanged a look before giggling slightly. 'You go first,' he lifted the curners of his lips in a smile.'Why are you here?' A question that have been lingering on her mind since she saw him. 'I thought I could make it to at least the last few minutes of the dinner, but guess I was too late'.
'Right' She forced a smile. Maybe it was the fact that she had been waiting so much for his arrival or a message that the reason made her feel more disappointed than him not attending the dinner at all. 'What were you saying?' She asked with curiousity, not hearing what had said earlier. 'If you wanted a ride home', the offer immediately lifted her mood a little.
'Yes, thank you.' She smiled shily as he led the way to his vehicle before handing her a helmet.
She hopped on the motorcycle and wrapped her arms around Jungwon, trying not to make him uncomfortable once again. 'Don't worry, you can hold on. I'm not uncomfortable with it' he said as she obliged before they started moving.
Jennifer closed her eyes, fully embracing the adrenaline rush that spread across her body. She didn't know how long she held them close, but when she opened them, she found herself in a road that she wasn't familiar with and soon he stopped in front of a building.
Her eyes went up to Jungwon, who had come down of the mini-car with two wheels. He then removed his helmet, his hair a bit messy as a grin spread across his face.
She looked around confused, trying to figure out their location, but before she could utter any word, he walked toward the entrance while she followed behind. Looking up at the dim yellow light on top of the building with the word "Merlot".'Jungwon-ah!' She called out his name as he stopped turning to look at her.
'Why are we here?' The brunette asked as he flashed her a smile once again. 'I was hoping we could spend some time together,' the tall, dark-haired male answered bluntly before greeting the man at the counter.Jennifer looked around, mesmerized by the aesthetic of the restaurant. It wasn't that big, but it was made in wood, with sits around the counter and other tables in the surroundings. The atmosphere was chill, and the scent of trees was refreshing and relaxing.
Only when they sat down she registered what Jungwon had said earlier, looking at him with pure surprise. She was about to speak, but stopped herself when her phone buzzed. It was an email from Soojin. She quickly replied, taking her attention back to the male who stared at her with a smile.
There were many things that they didn't knew about each other and Jennifer had actually hoped to talk more with him at the restaurant, a thing that didn't look that possible at first, but now seemed like happening, and she wasn't going to waste this opportunity.
'You come here often?' She asked starring at him. 'Yeah, we do sometimes' he answered.
Before she could question him on who was the "we" referring to, the waiter arrived with some coffee for the two.
'I figured that you weren't that hungry as you were with the team earlier, but if you want something you can ord-' She shook her head before he could say more, interrupting him.
'You were correct' she grinned. They had a great time, laughing about the most trivial things and glancing at each other.
What do you do outside work?' She asked. 'Sincerely, not much. I spend time with my brothers. We live together.' This part sounded oddly familiar to her, but at the moment she couldn't place the pieces together. 'Do you leave alone?' He asked, stating that he didn't remember her ever mentioning anyone 'Yes I do' she answered shortly. They went on to discuss about their music tastes and more. And soon, they were off to Jennifer's house.
'Okay...I think I may get going now. Good night' Jungwon stopped and Jennifer could feel his piercing gaze on her.
The night was peaceful, accompanied by the stars twinking in the sky, as they stared at each other more. She felt trapped, almost under his control. It was a sudden drive that pushed her to want to stay close to him and know about him, but she didn't know why.
Suddenly, he got close to Jennifer and spoke softly in her ear, 'you looked truly beautiful tonight.'His warm breath sent shivers down her spine, followed by tingles in her chest. His words sounded sweet, almost like honey, making her eyes flung open in surprise.
She wanted to say something, but from her mouth only blabbering without sense could be heard, as his words where able to make her shy. 'Goodnight' he gave her a cheeky smile, winking before turning around. Then as quickly as he had said so, he disappeared in the night, with the sound of the rumble of the engine that could be heard echoing in the quiet streets.
His compliment brought a warm feeling to her tummy, and even thinking about it in that moment, made her feel the same way. What he said was a thing that was stuck in her head and played in repeat with his smile as he left. That was definitely a night she would not forget.
'So? How did the dinner went? Did you had fun?' She and Soojin where on a call, to update each other, as the tall brunette couldn't wait till Monday for an update. 'It's still Sunday morning, give me a break.' She sat on her couch, bringing her breakfast with her and keeping it on the table.
'Soo?' Not long after waking up, she received a call from her, thinking it was emergency she picked up, but it wasn't.
They stayed on the phone for a while, but she didn't mention her encounter with Jungwon, or him taking her home, not wanting their students president to get the wrong idea. She did talk about two colleagues not being able to attend though.'How was yours?' She finally shifted the attention to Soojin, that didn't sound so excited as Jennifer. 'I've been working there for a year now, so I know most of the people there. The place was a normal restaurant around the corner, nothing too fancy' she sighed, a little disappointed.
They went on talking about their team mates, as Jennifer talked about Jihoon and his bad timing on making jokes, while Soojin mentioned getting a little close to a new girl in their department called Yeji.
By the time they were done, it was already 12 PM in the day.
