Prologue

Kris slams her hand on her alarm clock as she gets up with an upset sigh. She sits in her bed and stares at the wall for a few seconds. Kris zones out for a moment but is brought back to earth when she hears her father call her. "Kris! Hurry up or you will be late for work. Oh! And don't forget to feed that cat and take out the trash as you leave!" Kris sighs and gets out of bed and stretches causes her back to pop. She grabs her Sparky's uniform and starts her morning routine.

After she is done she goes to the kitchen where her dad William is sitting reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. "Morning dad" she says grabbing the cat food out of the cabinet "Morning Kiddo" William says as he puts his cup to his lips drinking the coffee. "You ready for another week at work?" He asks. "Ha! No. The only good thing about this job is Ness being there." Kris says putting the cat food in the cat's bowl.

Kris puts the cat food up and gets toast from the bread box and puts in the toaster. She puts her hands on the counter and pushes herself onto the counter. "How about you, anything exciting at work this week?" Kris asks making jazz hands at the word 'exciting'. "No, just the same thing I have been doing ever since the pizzeria closed." William sighs. Kris frowns at the thought of one of her favorite places being closed for good. Kris snaps to reality by the toaster and looks at the clock. "Shit, I have to get to work." Kris jumps off the counter and grabs the toast.

She grabs her bag and hugs her dad and kisses him on the cheek. "See you after work dad" Kris says taking her keys off of the key hook. "Don't get kidnapped" Willam says not looking up from his newspaper. "Don't be ironic, love you dad" Kris chuckles. "Love you too, kiddo" William chuckles.

Kris closes the door and makes her way down the stairs of the apartment complex and to her car. She unlocks it and throws her bag in the backseat. She gets in and starts to drive to work.

Kris parks behind the diner and turns off the car. She places her head  on the steering wheel and sighs "it's just another day". She stays there for a moment until she hears a knock on her window. She looks up to see her friend Ness waving at her. Kris gets out of the car and greets her friend. "Hey Ness" she says. "Hey Kris, you ready for another day?" Ness asks cheerfully. "As long as you are here Ness, sure" Kris says smiling and walking into the building.

Kris puts her stuff in her work locker and puts on her apron and grabs her notepad and pencil. "Another day another dollar.." Kris sighs as she walks out to behind the counter.
