Chapter Six

The next day Abby and Mike came back to the dinner. This time they were greeted by Ness. "Hello welcome to Sparky's, go ahead and find a seat and someone will be right with y'all" Ness smiled at the two and walked to the break room to grab Kris. When he entered the break room he saw Kris asleep with the golden helmet, now getting a better look he saw it was a yellow bunny helmet. Nevertheless, he went up to Kris and shook her awake. When Kris woke up she saw that she was in the break room. She looked up at Ness confused. "Mike and Abby are back, I'm assuming you want to serve them again." Ned said helping Kris put her stuff back in the bag.
Kris nods and goes to the dining room.

"Hey Mike, Hey Abby, what can I get y'all started on" Kris said with a tired smile. "You ok? You look kinda out of it today" Mike looked at her concerned. "Yeah just having fun last night." Kris said giving Abby a knowing look and a wink. Abby looked at her with a big smile.

Kris was chatting with the two as they ate occasionally doing what she was paid to do. After the siblings ate Kris gave them milkshakes like the day before and smiled at them.

As they left both Mike and Kris noticed something. Kris noticed when she picked up Mikes plate there was a note that said

Thanks for the milkshakes yesterday. Hopefully this is enough to pay you back.

Next to the note was a $10 bill. Kris widened her eyes and pick d up both things. Kris smiles to herself and puts both in her apron pocket, and looks out the glass door Mike and Abby walked out of.

—— Meanwhile ——

When Mike took a sip of his milkshake he felt something like a dent under his fingertips. He looked at the Styrofoam cup and noticed something was written in pen.

Thanks for making my job a little more enjoyable

Mike raised his eyebrows at the words on the cup. He smiled slightly to himself, he stoped and looked back at the diner and he noticed that Kris was also looking at h as well. They both smiled and gave one last wave at each other before Abby noticed her brother stopped in his tracks.

Abby looks up at Mike and noticed the look in his eyes. "What are you looking at?" Abby questioned taking a sip of her milkshake. This made Mike snap out of his trance with a small smile and keep walking to the car. Abby looked back and saw Kris wiping down the counter and smiled knowing what her brother was looking at.

During Kris' break she took out the note out of her pocket and looked at it and sighed. She looked at it for a few seconds until Ness came in for his break with two cups of Diet Coke. Kris looked him then his cups. "Long day so far?" Kris asked. He nods gulping his first cup down. "And that is no theory" He said pointing at her.

Ness saw something in Kris' hand. He tilts his head and asks "what is that?" Kris looks at the not in her hand and gives it to him. Ness reads it and looks at Kris "aww that was sweet" Ness smiles at his friend. "Yeah" Kris smiles to herself.
Ness looks at her in surprise and in genuine happiness. "You know, I haven't seen you genuinely smile since the first time we talked, I can tell this guy is on your radar, but that is just a theory " he says. Kris rolls her eyes but doesn't deny anything.

When Kris arrives at home she can sense a strange feeling in the air. She doesn't know what it is but she shrugs it off. Her dad is at the kitchen island working on some paperwork.

"Hey, dad" Kris says putting her stuff on the couch and her apron on the counter. William looks up from his paperwork "Hey kiddo, how was work?" He said as he noticed a small piece of paper had fallen out of his daughter's apron. "Really good actually, can't say the same for Ness but tomorrow is another day right." Kris says. "That's nice, but what is that" William asks pointing to the paper. "Oh nothing, just trash I forgot to throw away." She says as she grabs her apron and the paper off of the counter and puts it in her room.

"Well I'm going to head off to bed, maybe watch a movie or something." Kris says gathering her things. "Oh also, are we still having our weekly Friday milkshake night tomorrow?" Kris asks with a smile on her face. William looks back at her and smiles "wouldn't miss it for the world" William says. Kris smiles even bigger and goes up to hug her dad and says her goodnights.

As Kris is watching the movie 'Drumline' she notices a picture on her desk. She gets up add picks up the frame. The picture is of a young Kris and a younger version of her sister Vanessa and their father who is in the Spring Bonnie suit. Little Kris is holding a yellow bunny plush that has a purple bow tie on, she is also holding onto her father's leg. Her sister Vanessa was holding an orange plane.

Kris smiled, they all looked happy in this picture, what ever happened to that happiness?

Kris looked at the plush her younger self was holding and had a thought. She walked to her closet and pulled out a book and when she opened it there sat that same yellow bunny plush that was in the picture. Kris takes it out of the box and hugs it, tears forming in her eyes. "Bunny" she mumbled will hugging it. She keeps the plush out of the box and closes the box and puts it back in the closet.

She gets up and sits on her bed and continues to watch the movie, now enjoying it with her favorite childhood plush.
