Jennifer was walking through the university campus, her head filled with thoughts of the upcoming weekend. It was already Thursday, and she still hadn't chosen what to wear for the department dinner and she was a bit overwhelmed with all the decisions she had to make.
'We have dinner too this weekend with our team, but I've already bought the dress' Soojin smiled, showing Jennifer and Jihan the picture she took in it. 'That color really fits you' Jihan complimented her for her stunning features going in harmony with the dress.
After school end, they took their bags, and graded home, walking toghether the piece of read that they sheared.
'I don't know, but I hope my math test went well' the short bunny look alike girl said. 'Surely you did well' Soojin answered. 'Indeed Jihan-ah. You are soo good with maths' Jennifer replied as the students president nodded.
Soon enough, she was the one who said goodbye, as her house was in the apartments sides of the city, while the other two lived in their family houses.
'See you tomorrow girls' She waved at them, before leaving. On her way home, she was passing in front of some shops, when she noticed a jewelry store out of the corner of her eye. Jennifer stopped and looked in the window, and there it was....
It was a beautiful argent pendant necklace, with a rose gemstone in the middle, surrounded by a heart and on the top a rose. She knew right away that it was perfect for Mrs. Joy.
Without giving it a second thought, she entered the shop, and bought it despite the price, that was a little over what she would have spend in jewelry for her self, but she was fine with it.
She would give it to her in some weeks when they were seeing each other. After dropping her bag at home, she changed from her university uniform, to more comfortable clothes, grabbed her purse and went on her journey in search for a dress.
In the first store, she browsed the racks of clothes, looking for something special enough for the occasion, but all invain as she couldn't find anything she liked. "This is too colourful," "too shiny," "too many ornaments," "too simple". Actually it didn't matter if the dress was simple, but having to wear a plain piece of fabric didn't seem really appropriate for the first dinner with colleagues.
The second store, was looking appealing to her, so she decided to take a look. The dresses where mostly her style, and she had some indecision choosing.
'Okay...this one no and-' she was able to find flaws, even if minor in all the dresses, so it would have been easier to chose, exept for two, which she found difficulty in making a final choice.
One was a black dress, that went above the knees. It was elegant, with puff long-sleeves and was giving the vibe of place corset dress. The material was not too tight, and a little wavy.
The other dress, was almost the same lengh, still above the knees.
Another long sleeved, but of a beige color. It had puffy shoulder side and a v neckline a little dip, with many close crease on the waist. The two obviously would have been topped with a shorter coat she had at home. The problem was that she had it two shades, being the two colors of the dresses.
After some thoughts, she chose the two and paid for both; as she couldn't even remember the last time she went buying dresses, and was sure that if it wasn't for an important even, she wasn't coming back for another shopping spree.
As she walked home, Jennifer felt a sense of peace fill her heart, not regretting purchasing neither of the two.She thought even about Mrs. Joy and how she couldn't wait to give her the gift. She knew she would appreciate the thoughtful gesture, but not before scolding her for buying her a gift. She knew her really well and started giggling at the thought of being right. It made her happy to know that she could do something to show her appreciation once in a while.
When Saturday finally arrived, Jennifer wore the beige dress with some pear accessories she had, and styled her hair in a half up half down. While looking at the mirror, she felt confident and beautiful, something that she didn't remember feeling before.
She never really thought much of her looks. In the orphanage, people were rude to her anyways, regardless if she was gorgeous or ugly, kids would always find a ways to pick on her.
She left her house and took a cab.
Whe she arrived, as Jennifer stepped inside, the restaurant was busy and full of activity. The interior was modern, stylish with a sleek black and white decor and wooden tables. There were many people and she already spotted an impressive array of alcohol in some of the tables. The sound of laughter echoed around the room, and the aroma of freshly cooked food that was in the air.Jennifer made her way to the table where her colleagues were seated, taking a moment to take in her surroundings. Her gaze passed over the large chandeliers that hung from the ceiling, casting a elegant and chic glow over the room. The walls were adorned with beautiful artworks, and the waiters were dressed in white shirts and black trousers.
She sighed with relief. 'Fortunately I didn't overdress or underdress,' she whispered. At the table, her colleagues greeted her with warm smiles and compliments on her choice of dress. Jennifer felt her cheeks flush with the attention. She couldn't wait to have fun and see how everyone else where dressed, but someone was missing...
-Where are you Jungwon?-
She wanted to text him, but felt too invasive, so instead she cancelled the message and rewrite it. After giving him her number, he texted her two times to ask if she needed a ride after work. -Hey, it's me Jennifer...we are waiting for you, are you still coming?-She had been looking forward to this day, but now she was feeling a touch of disappointment as after one hour, he hadn't replied yet. 'I see you really mean it when you said "the first team dinner is important", did you chose this place?' Seohyung the vice director asked Minyoung with a grin.
'Obviously. Maybe it look really luxurious, but the prices are pretty affordable' she glance at everyone in the table. In that moment, Jennifer heard her phone make a sound, and immediately checked it. A massage from Jungwon...
-I can't make it, something came up-
She sighed, a little disappointed, then informed the team about it.
-Is everything all right?- she typed'Then next time we will make sure everyone comes. Even Soon Tae couldn't be here because he had to spend time with his daughters' she shook her head 'This was meant to form a team bond' She sighed.
'So, what you guys would like to order?' Minyoung asked as she took a look at menu.
As the dinner went on, the others made conversation and enjoyed the food, but Jennifer was growing more and more aware of his absence.
She constantly checked her phone, but the notification never arrive. Maybe she was being to much impatient?
Her mood was ruined and she wanted to leave early, but didn't for respect for her co-workers.'See you at work Monday then' She waved at them, as they all entered in their cars and started going home 'Are you sure you don't want a ride?' Jihoon asked her. They had the chance to talk more and become a bit closer for the end of the night. 'No, but thank you. I will wait for a cab' She smiled at him. He didn't try to insist, as he knew it was of no avail. After saying goodbye night to each other, he left.
