The morning of the day before the wedding dawned clear and the sun shone brightly, casting a warm glow over the serene Jingshi. As the first rays of light filtered through the windows, Lan Wangji stood by the open balcony, his white robes fluttering in the gentle breeze. His gaze lingered on the fluffy clouds drifting lazily across the vast blue expanse, their tranquility mirroring the peace that had settled in his heart.
When he heard his husband shifted in the bed behind him, he turned, smiling at him softly.
"Wei Ying, it's time to wake up." He said softly, gently taking hold of Wei Wuxian's hand and bringing it up to his lips to kiss. He smiled as Wei Wuxian nuzzled into his embrace, letting out a sleepy whine and rubbing his face against his chest. "Five more minutes," he mumbled, tightening his grip around Lan Wangji. "Mmm, you smell so good."
Lan Wangji sighed, stroking through his husband's hair. "Wei Ying, it's past eight."
Wei Wuxian made another unhappy sound and burrowed his head further into Lan Wangji's shoulder. "Just five more minutes."
Lan Wangji closed his eyes and pressed an affectionate kiss onto the top of Wei Ying's head. "We will be late," he insisted. "Come now." He said, lifting the sleepy man up and headed toward the bath tub that he had prepared earlier.
Wei Wuxian was half asleep all the way through as Lan Wangji helped him washed up and dressed up.
"Uncle wants to see us as soon as we're done." Lan Wangji told him while tying his hair up neatly. His fingers lingered gently over Wei Wuxian's scalp, smoothing back any loose strands.
"Is he going to yell at us again?" Wei Wuxian wondered, looking up at him with big eyes. Not that he ever care about being yelled.
Lan Wangji simply smiled at him and placed a lingering kiss on his forehead. "I will be with you every step of the way."
Wei Wuxian sighed contentedly at the gesture, leaning his head into the touch. "Okay then." he said quietly.
When both of them arrived in Lan Qiren's office, they were greeted by a serious look on the elder face. Lan Xichen was there too, standing by his uncle's side with his usual warm smile.
"Sit down." The elder said, after receiving their greetings. "Wei Wuxian, I heard everything about what happened to you from Xichen." Lan Qiren began after the couple took their seats in front of him. "Is that true that you no longer have your Golden Core?"
"Yes, that's true, Lanxian-sheng." Wei Wuxian answered, fidgeting uncomfortably under Lan Qiren's scrutinizing eyes. Lan Wangji squeezed his hand, offering silent support, and Wei Wuxian relaxed somewhat.
Lan Qiren frowned deeply, his tone was regretful, "Why would you do that? Why would you give up your core? You had such a big potential..."
Wei Wuxian shook his head firmly, answering immediately. "I owed my late Uncle and Madam Yu that much. And I rather gave up my core than to see my martial brother gave up on his life."
