Grace woke that morning to Max pawing at her arm.
"I'm awake. I'm awake" she grumbled, stroking his head as she wiped the sleep from her eyes. She dressed before she and Max jogged around the block, when she got back she made breakfast for them both.
"We need groceries today buddy" she told him as he happily lapped at the food in his bowl "It's Daisy's birthday today" Max's head shot up at the sound of her name "Shall we get a cake? I think we should" she smiled, his head disappearing back into his bowl.
After she finished grocery shopping Grace stopped by Marie's and gave her cupcakes for her children before she went back to her house. She made herself and Max dinner, both of them eat in front of the television before Grace cleaned up. She grabbed two cupcakes and moved back to the couch she put a candle in one and lit it.
"Happy birthday baby girl" Grace smiled at Max before she blew out the small flame.
One year. One whole year without her baby girl. One whole year living without any of her children. She had survived and she was determined to keep on surviving. For her children. For herself. She finally had hope in herself and she wasn't going to give it up so easily. One day later Grace started packing.
Two days later Grace watched her boys play at the park from afar.
Three days later Grace met Clara and Elliot for a drink.
Four days later Grace moved into her apartment in Virginia and her house was sold.
Five days later Grace walked into the FBI's Virginia office. She showed her ID to security and took the elevator to the twentieth floor. She stood outside Special Agent James Lawson's office and smiled to herself before she knocked, the dark wood knock echoing throughout the room on the other side. The sound made her body spark. Something about the sound, something about this office, made it feel like she was coming home.
"Come in" A gruff voice called from the other side and she pushed open the door, the hope inside of her doubling.
