Caitlin had settled into her role in Cormac's household, his business partner and the woman that shares his bed. His men weren't allowed to touch her or look at her and anyone that did was never seen again. That was why when Cormac asked her to join a meeting of sorts in the living room she joined him without question.
"What's she doing here?" Paddy grumbled. Caitlin crossed the room with a smirk and wrapped her arms around Cormac's neck, pulling his body close to hers.
"Are you really going to let him talk to me like that, Cor?" she asked as he stroked her jaw.
"Yes. Despite the two of you hating each other you're both my best workers" he placed a kiss to her cheek "Now sit" he ordered gently, but instead she remained where she was and folded her arms over her chest "Please. Sit, my love" he asked again and this time she took a seat on the couch.
"I have a new shipment coming in, but I need someone to take care of a rat" Cormac announced.
"Who is it?" Paddy asked, rising from the couch, taking out his gun as he moved.
"Settle down Paddy. I want my girl to take care of it"
"Me? Why me? I like selling weapons as much as the next guy but why do I have to take care of your rat?"
"Loyalty love. I need to know that you can do it. And so does Paddy"
"So I'll shoot Paddy"
"Love" he sighed.
"He deserves it" she grumbled.
"He's outside. Just shoot him and my boys will clean up the mess" he smiled, handing her a gun before he placed a kiss to her cheek. Cormac and the others left to retrieve the shipment leaving Caitlin alone in the sitting room, still holding the gun that he'd given her. She moved through the villa and into the garden, seeing a bloodied man tied to the stone railing. His eyes landed on her and went wide before he started shouting, the noise muffled by the fabric that they had forced around his mouth and secured at the back of his head. She looked down at him, his eyes beginning to fill with tears that eventually spilled over as his tried to shout and beg despite the sound getting more muffled by his cries. She loaded a bullet into the chamber and flicked off the safety before she pointed the gun at him.
"Stealing is bad" a single shot rang out before his body slumped over and blood dripped from his forehead. She let out a deep sigh, flicking the safety back on before she turned back towards the villa, but she froze and her blood went cold as she met Liam's eyes.
"Liam"
"Sorry" he muttered before he ran off inside.
Caitlin hid the gun away before she climbed the stairs into the boys room, finding Connor fast asleep and Liam peering at her over the edge of his quilt. She smiled at him from the doorway, he smiled back. She crossed the room and climbed into bed with him, holding him close to her chest.
"About what you saw earlier-"
"He was a bad man, wasn't he? You're a good person, you wouldn't hurt someone unless they were bad"
"But he's gone now. Do you understand?"
"It's okay. I still trust you" he smiled up at her before he hugged her tightly. She didn't realise her tears had begun to fall until Liam reached up and wiped them away "I love you Caity. I wish you were my mom"
"I love you too honey" she smiled against the top of his head as she held him close.Caitlin lay in Cormac's bed watching as he changed for bed.
"Good work. I think after today Paddy is going to start trusting you more" he smiled as he climbed in next to her.
"He'd better. That asshole wants nothing more but to never see me again, especially next to you" she sighed.
"Well, he'd better get used to it. I kind of like sharing my bed with you" he smiled as Caitlin lay on his chest, his arm going around her as they fell into silence.
"He was shouting that he innocent. What did he steal?"
"Nothing"
"What?" she tried to calm the pounding of her heart that was forcing blood to rush to her ears.
"He didn't steal anything. That's why it was a test. I needed to know you could do it and he was perfect for it. No one is going to miss him" they fell into silence once again, with Caitlin's heart still pounding in her chest at her actions, about what he made her do even though she trusted him. But she can't. He's a terrorist. She's an FBI agent undercover. A special recipe for disaster, or a broken heart.Caitlin walked along the street, her heart hammering in her chest as she walked. Today wasn't about not maintaining her cover, she was just a woman out for a walk. But today she didn't care about anything, she needed a friend, she needed Caylee.
"I killed someone" she announced as quietly as she could without freaking out. Caylee pulled her aside, near the back of the store.
"Who? Where?"
"I don't know his name. I shot him in the head at Cor's villa, thee body will be long gone by now"
"Why did he ask you to do it?"
"Loyalty. He wanted Paddy to know that I wouldn't betray him, shooting someone innocent proved that"
"Did you know he was innocent?"
"Not until after I shot him"
"Shit Cait" she bit, running a hand through her hair.
"I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm slipping, I don't know how much more of this I can take" Caitlin let out a deep sigh as she ran a hand through her own hair.
"What does that mean?"
"It means...it means what it means" she bit.
"Are you switching sides or do you want out?"
"I haven't figured that out yet" she admitted.
"If you run, you'll never be able to stop"
"I've been running my entire life. I've never stopped running, it's the only life I know"
"And getting an out?"
"That's the thing, I want an end to it all but, I don't want it to end" Caitlin admitted before she left the store.
