Forty One

Everything in the last month felt so unreal. Derek had become extra protective of Meredith in the past month. She was already 12 and a half weeks. The swell had rounded and looked more like a little bump now.

Meredith had swapped her paints for pregnancy friendly ones and had already painted three teddy bear canvases for the nursery.

Derek had spent his spare time clearing the room that would become their nursery in the coming weeks. The beds had been donated as had the drawers. They had ordered mainly white furniture for the nursery. They had decided to wait until they knew the gender before painting. Meredith had everything planned for either a girl nursery or boy.

Meredith was the happiest she had ever been. Derek spent hours on end with her looking at soft toys , baby items and clothes.  She had picked out the most beautiful bubblegum pink travel system for if the baby was a girl and the mist blue version for if it was a boy.

She had no preference on the gender , happy and healthy was all she wished for.

With her tiny bump growing by day today was the day the couple were going to announce  their pregnancy to both families. The day was warm, the most perfect day for a barbecue.

Ellis and John were the only people she had invited for herself as well as Addison. Derek had his parents, Kathleen with her son Luca since she separated from Caleb, Lizzy with Laurence , Logan and Lacey , Mark, Owen and Amelia. As well as a couple of friends from work.

"You look stunning" Derek whispered into her ear as he placed soft kisses to her neck. His hand rest on the hardened swell. " I can't believe our baby is in here Mer. Our baby, the life we created is here" His words were full of happiness as he held her close to him.

" I'm in my underwear" she giggled , her hair was perfectly curled and her makeup neutral yet perfect. She had on a soft cotton grey push up bra with the matching laced thong.

" I love it when you are naked you know that , I love this ass" Meredith giggled as he palmed her cheek. " Just like dough" he murmured.

" You my handsome should go start the barbecue they'll be here soon" she turned in his arms to place a kiss on his lips.

"Of course gorgeous. I love you" he pulled her in again to savour her soft lips.

She was his everything and more. In the time he had known her his life had changed. He'd once been carefree and into bars and women. How he couldn't imagine sleeping a night without her, couldn't imagine a night without her throwing popcorn and giggling. She'd shown him how to love and how to be loved.

"You look so lost brother"Mark chuckled as they all walked in through the back.

"No I'm just so happy, very happy" he tried not to let his pure joy show, he was the luckiest man in his own eyes. He had the most beautiful woman who he loved more than anything who was now carrying his baby.

He'd nearly lost her at one point and that was what made this even more special to him. She'd fought and now here she was nearly 13 weeks pregnant.

Amelia winked as she passed Derek, she was the only person they'd personally told other than Arizona. Derek chuckled and shook his head with a smile. He watched as Ruby bounded between people with a rope toy in her mouth, as they laughed between eachother. He was living the dream life, one everyone envied.

Meredith's presence was known the moment she stepped out from the doorway . Ruby ran to her with a bark her tongue hanging out.

She wore the most beautiful thigh length yellow floral dress. Derek made sure the food was safe before walking over to her. He placed the softest kiss to her head as he wrapped his arm around her frame.

" I love this dress baby" he whispered. " you look out of this world" he complimented.

"Derek don't tease me , you know how horny I am since I fell pregnant"Her cheeks flushed as she spoke. She had been friskier than she had ever been. Derek would tell her " Oh girl you're on me like a rabbit on heat". He wasn't complaining however, she was amazing and each time they had sex he'd find himself admiring her naturally beautiful body.

Everyone tucked into their food as Meredith tried to hold down the rising sickness. The smell of the meat and sauces sending waves of nausea through her.

Derek ran his hand up and down her back to soothe her as they finished devouring their food. He placed multiple kisses to her cheek and forehead as he silently cooed to her stomach.

Once the plates had been cleared and the conversations had started again Derek cleared his throat.

"We would like to say something" he held his hand out to Meredith who stood beside him , her body leaning into his.

All eyes focused on them as Derek began.

"Family is the greatest gift , the memories we share with our family , the love we share, nothing could ever beat those feelings that family gives you. All of you here are the most important people in our lives , you are our family and we love you more than anything" he snaked his arm around her waist and placed his hand over her stomach. A large smile formed on both faces as Meredith finished the sentence.

" We would love to share with you the news that we are having a baby. I am 12 weeks pregnant" the air erupted with laughter , congratulations and happiness.

Ellis felt the tears stream as she pulled Meredith close and kissed her forehead, her hand settled on the forming swell.

"My grandchild you are so dearly loved already , I cannot wait to meet you . You have the best mumma in the entire world who will always love you and you have a dadda who would kill for you. Our little bundle of joy" Ellis never thought she'd see the moment the once broken and abused child she took in fell in love and started a family of her own.

"You are my entire world baby , both of you are . I love you so fucking much" Derek spoke into her hair as they watched everyone buzz about the news.

There would soon be an another life to love.
