The sunset could be seen being the city gate. It made the gate look dark and some might think ominous. But to Nakita it made a beautiful picture. She was finally here. Her mother had ordered her servant to take Nakita to the capital and leave her there.
Her mother appeared like a good and sweet person. At least to everyone but Nakita. Her mother had treated her badly her whole life. Her mother was the daughter of Duke Kari and had been horribly spoiled by her father. So when her new husband, who had been chosen by Duke Kari, wouldn't spoil her she began to hate him. So she treated her daughter, who was like her father in temperament, horribly. She tried to starve her and would beat her for anything wrong that Nakita did, even if it was a little thing.
As a result Nakita made sure to appear perfect around her mother. She learned early on to hide who she really was when around certain people. Nakita, over time, adapted to the cruelty. She became ironhearted. She seemed to care for nothing and no one.
As she got out of the carriage, Nakita noticed that the gate was about to be closed. So she hurried and entered the city. There were guards at the gate. In fact, Nakita would bet that they had guards on the walls that surrounded the whole city.
She was finally getting her first look at the city. A person could tell at first glance that it was the capital of their country, Great Pan. There were so many people that it overwhelmed Nakita at first. But it also had a beauty to it. People could be seen moving about. She assumed that most people on the street were headed home to be with their families.
To everyone in Great Pan, family was everything. And those who didn't show respect to the elders of their family were ostracized. But there was always a downside to everything, even if the elder was wrong, you still had to show proper respect.
Nakita's first priority, since it was getting late, was to find somewhere to stay for
night. As she made her way down the street looking for an inn, she also checked out what kind of shops were around and what this part of the city was like.
It looked to her like the neighborhood was made up of those in the city who were less fortunate. To her eyes they may be less fortunate, but they looked happy. Those that weren't already home were making their way there, either with their families or to their families.
Thinking about others being with their families, Nakita missed her father and brothers. She had her mother too, but her mother had always hated her and mistreated her. Whenever her father and brothers weren't around her mother barely fed her. Once when she was small, she had tried to tell her father how her mother treated her, but he hadn't believed her. To him, a mother wouldn't do that, and he had never seen that side of her mother.
She had never had a normal family. The closest she had to a normal family was
the relationship she had with her father and brothers. They all adored her. Whenever they were around they doted on her. Her father and brothers almost never told her no.
Not far away Nakita saw an inn that looked decent. She strolled over to the inn to see if they had an available room. After speaking with the person at the front desk, Nakita had a room to stay in. The room was hers for a week. Hopefully by then she would know what she was going to be doing next.
Nakita spent a week exploring Terra. She wanted to get to know it the best she could. Starting at the outermost parts of the city, she explored as much as she could each day.
Finally after a week she only had the innermost part of the city left and it also happened to be where the nobles lived. Not to mention the royal family. Also, last night had been her last night at the inn, so she packed her things and headed for her grandfather's residence.
