The General's Daughter

Chapter 10

It only took a day and a half for Nyx and Fane to find them. Fane had found his way into one of the central buildings at the nearest enemy town. He had been checking all of the buildings and it took him a while to find them.

When Fane entered the building that they were kept in the General Warfield, Jagger, and Jedrek all stood up. Fane stopped in front of the general and held out the note that he had for him. The two brothers looked at each other in confusion.

The general, warily took the note and read it. Once he started reading, he perked up. His daughter was so amazing. He couldn't believe she was here to get them. "It's from Nakita. They are her spirit animals. She along with those three rascals are going to come get us."

"Normally a mission like this is appointed by the emperor. How is she here? She should be home with mother," said Jagger.

Jedrek looked at their father. "Something about this seems off father. We will have to ask her about it when we get back."

General Warfield thought about what they said for a moment. They might be on to something. There should have been no reason for her to be on this mission. As far as he knew no one in the capital knew that she had trained with his soldiers and was capable of doing this sort of mission. So why was she the one sent? "You are right. We will need to get to the bottom of this." The general looked at Fane and told him, "Go ahead and go back to her. I know that she sent you so that she would be able to come get us. Tell her to be careful."

With that, Fane went back out and found Nyx and they headed back to Nakita. Nyx and Fane were only gone for three days. They were able to show Nakita exactly where to find them, which building and everything. They even showed her what they looked like when they had given the note to her father and Fane told her that her father said to be careful. Nakita and the others had already prepared what they needed for this mission so once she told them, they were able to leave immediately after telling the captain.

The border between Dromland was mountainous and wooded so the four of them left on foot. It would also make it so that they were less suspicious. It took them a day and a half to reach the town that Nyx and Fane had found them in.

Before they entered the city they made a plan. "The building that they are kept in is in the middle of the town. They were guarded by at least five men. Our goal is to get in and out without being spotted. You three will be the look outs. I will go in and get them. You three should position yourselves around the building in a triangle formation so that you can see all sides. I will leave one of my animals with each of you so that they can tell me the best way out."

The four of them entered the town and made their way to where the general and his sons were being kept. Nikita left the Sage, her fox, with Sunda, Fane with Victor, and Jade, her green parrot, with Kaiden. They did as she had said and positioned themselves around the building in a triangle formation. Once they were all set up she entered the building.

Fane had been able to show her exactly how to find them, so it took no time for her to reach them. She entered soundlessly. Even her father didn't hear her. When she entered the room, they were in they were sleeping. For a moment she just stood there looking at them with relief that they were alive.

Nakita stood there for a few minutes. She had hoped that one of them would wake up. It would be bad if she made any sound. Those guarding her father and brothers would know what they sound like, so if she were to talk it would alert them that someone was there that shouldn't be.

She didn't have to wait long before her father woke up. He had been in the military long enough that his body could sense it when someone was watching him and that was what woke him. He immediately went to wake his sons. As soon as they woke up he let them know not to say anything.
