This chapter contains violence and more trauma .
As I drifted off to sleep in Astarion's comforting embrace, my dreams took a dark and twisted turn. I found myself back in the same moonlit night, standing on the balcony that had once been my sanctuary. The beautiful full moon still shone brightly, casting a silvery glow over everything, but the atmosphere was different. It felt heavy, foreboding, and I couldn't shake off the sense of impending doom.
I looked down at the camp, and the moonlight that had once been a source of solace now felt like an omen. A shadowy figure approached from the darkness below, slowly taking shape as it ascended the stairs to my balcony. It was Natneri.
Natneri's appearance was ghostly and ethereal, her eyes filled with sadness and longing. She was dressed in tattered, blood-stained rags, and her once-vibrant beauty was marred by the horrors she had endured. She reached out to me, pointing an accusatory finger.
"Y/N," she yelled, "This is your fault, you did this. They tortured me, they killed me. All because you ran like a coward." A knife went through her throat before she could finish her sentence.
As I watched in horror, the scene played out before me like a haunting memory. The nobles I had once served, their faces twisted with cruelty, surrounded Natneri. They stabbed, burned, hacked off, sliced and committed all the violent atrocities that you could think of. I felt helpless, unable to intervene or escape from the nightmarish vision unfolding before me.
I screamed for the nightmare to end, but the moonlight seemed to imprison me, forcing me to witness Natneri's brutal death over and over again. The balcony, once a place of serenity, had become a prison of horrors, and the moonlight had transformed into a malevolent force that would never release its grip on me.
Tears streamed down my face as I realized that I was powerless to change the past or save Natneri from her cruel fate. The nightmare seemed to stretch on for an eternity, the nightmarish scene repeating itself endlessly, each time more gruesome and heart-wrenching than the last.
In the end, I awoke with a start, drenched in cold sweat and trembling. The moonlight still bathed the room in its silvery glow, but the nightmare had left an indelible mark on my soul. The memory of Natneri's death at the hands of the nobles haunted me, and the once-beloved moonlight now held a sinister, unforgiving quality.
I clung to Astarion, seeking solace in his arms, desperate to escape the vivid nightmare that had consumed me. As I nestled against him. The memory of that horrific dream would stay with me, a grim reminder of the darkness that lurked in the past and the shadows that still threatened to overtake our world. Tears fell down my cheeks, but I contained my sobs. As much as I wished he was awake I didn't want to wake him.
My plan was foiled when his garnet eyes blinked open. I tried to wipe away my tears but failed when his hand caught my arm.
"What's gotten you so worked up my dear?"
"Nightmares, I kept seeing them kill her, a memory they forced into my head while they left me to rot" I said through choked sobs, no longer bothering to hide them.
Astarion's gaze softened as he pulled me even closer, his arms a reassuring sanctuary against the lingering terrors of the dream. He brushed away my tears with gentle fingers, his touch a comforting balm against the wounds inflicted by the nightmares.
"I'm sorry you had to endure such horrors, my love," he whispered, his voice a soothing melody. "Nightmares can be relentless, but you're safe here with me. No nobles, no shadows, just us."
I nestled into his embrace, taking solace in the warmth of his presence. His words were a lifeline, grounding me in the reality that we had escaped the clutches of those who once sought to control us. Still, the weight of the nightmare lingered, and I couldn't shake the desire for justice, a yearning for the nobles to face the consequences of their cruel actions.
"I want them to suffer," I confessed, my voice trembling with a mixture of anger and grief. "They took everything from me. I want them to pay for their sins."
Astarion's eyes, usually filled with a playful glint, darkened in agreement. His grip on me tightened, and for a moment, I could feel the intensity of his emotions matching mine.
"They deserve to feel the pain they inflicted on others," he said, his voice low and filled with a quiet rage. "No one should be allowed to escape the consequences of such cruelty. We'll make them pay my dear, just like we will with Cazador."
In that moment, as we clung to each other in the moonlit room, a shared determination ignited between us. We laid there for a long time as Astarion continued to comfort me. It took a while before the subject changed.
"I've seen the pictures around the house, it wasn't just Natneri they took, was it?"
"No, they also took the child we where raising, Valdiree, she was entrusted to Natneri after her parents where lost to Sharans. We became her world, and she became ours. It was nice being a parent, an experience that most likely won't repeat itself."
"What do you mean?"
"Nobles don't need their favorite toy giving them bastard children, so they cut that part of me out." My faced filled with sorrow and his turned to one of shock, then anger.
"Those wretches deserve a fate worse than death." He held me tighter, "Nothing will stand in the way of our revenge."
"And once it's over?"
"You and I will find peace, whether it be ruling the absolute cult, taking over the world, or a nice cottage in the country side."
"I prefer the world domination idea."
"That's my love"
