This chapter is the begining of Astarion becoming a bit toxic. I'm taking inspiration from how he acts after he ascends, to add more of a buildup to that behavior.  Just a reminder I'm writing Y/N as nonbinary AFAB.
The next few days where a blur, we had infiltrated the goblin camp and now we were making our final plans to take it down. The camp was an old Selune temple, but the only "priest" there now was one of Loviotar, one I had taken "penance" from at request from Astarion. Not the worst pain I had endured, but I found little pleasure in it, apart from the praise of Astarion afterward. The praise at the end of the day, the soft touch of his hands, that made it all worth it.
I wandered towards his tent, wanting his affection. I had learned from his aura that unlike me he didn't enjoy physical contact unless he initiated it. I lifted the tent flap, expecting him to reside within, as he usually did before we retired to my home, but he was absent. I flared my aura senses, failing to locate him. Panic set in, I looked frantically around, I rushed outside to alert the others before feeling his aura on the edges of my sense. I calmed as the eyes of my companions moved to me.
"Are you alright Y/N?" Gale said.
"Yes, I'm fine." I smiled while I responded, walking back into the tent, finding my usual spot, next to where Astarion typically was. He walked in, piercing eyes locking on me.
"What's all the commotion I heard outside darling." He headed towards me, crouching to my level, a hand moving to my cheek. "Your hearts racing." His voice full of concern as he sat, pulling me close, my head resting on his shoulder.
"I got worried, you weren't here, and I couldn't sense you." My voice mirroring his concern. His grip on me tightened. Though I could not see or sense it, he smiled, enjoying my concern, my fear of him being gone.
"Don't fret my dear, my lovely loyal darling, I'm here, our enemies couldn't separate us if they tried."
"Just please tell me before you go off alone."
"I can handle myself you know."
"I know it's just-" He cut me off, a hand moving to my head, gripping my hair.
"Y/N, I don't need to tell you every time I go to do something, we're partners you should trust me, do you not trust me." His voice grew sad in the end.
"Of course I trust you, I'm sorry for acting like this, I just got scared." His grip loosened and his hands began to caress me. He guided my head back so I could see his face, he smiled.
"Don't apologize, we both mean a lot to each other, now then lets get back to our little routine of ours." I leaned back, freeing his body. He moved to his usual spot, I moved back to mine.
"You look tired awful tired love, come rest your head." I moved my head to his lap, eyes staring into his as he brushed my hair out of the way.
"There's my good pet." He smiled again, the hand close to me moving to stroke my hair as he picked up a book. I thought about objecting to the nickname, it was too close to my old names. But it sounded good coming from him. I was his. His gentle hand lulled me to sleep, the last thing I heard was.
"My wonderful sweetheart, what would I do without you."
