Hide and Go Seek

    Thunder boomed outside as we gathered around my cramped room. The six of us had planned on going to the basketball court, but it started pouring, so we decided to hang out at my place instead. This was the first time I had all of them here at once, and it wasn't going to be great. The only time us boys ever hung out with the girls was when we all played basketball together, so the group was pretty awkward and consisted of me and my twin sister Max trying to find ice-breaker conversation starters and games for everyone to play. It wasn't going too well, though.

    “We should play something guys,” says Max, exasperated, “there is way too intense of an atmosphere in here! What is wrong with you guys?! We have been playing basketball five days a week for years now! Why is this so awkward for y’all?!” It became more awkward after that.

     I smack my forehead. Max was my polar opposite. She always addressed the problem head-on and was very blunt about it, which makes the problem worse sometimes. She was also a bit eccentric, which put people off even more. This week, she decided to try a southern accent, which isn't going too well and earns a lot of stares from people. We live in Oregon.

    I sigh, trying to come up with something to do next and fast.

    “Oh!! I know! We could play hide and seek!” Everyone turns to look at me. I shrink back a little bit from their stares.

    “What are we, two?” says Katie with a snort. She was the oldest out of us all at the age of 18. The rest of us were 17, with Jacob coming in with 16.

    “No listen, I heard about this other way to play! It involves….necromancy!”
I was immediately in my zone. I am amazing at telling stories. I get way into them, though my younger siblings never mind that part, which makes it more interesting.
   
     Everyone is looking at me now, curious.
    “It's a Japanese game. You have to summon something that will then chase you down and try to find you. It's a high stakes game of hide and seek. Who's interested?!” I look around me as everyone's hands shoot up into the air.
I grin, “okay then!! Let's get this party started.
