23. Grim

I am worried sick. How could Max really believe that Alan is okay? Let alone alive! She must be in denial, I get that, but even so, She probably went to go get Jacob and will bring him as well! Everything will be over.

And the fact that this thing's plan actually worked. We have always been in Amarillo. It lied about being in Colorado so that Amarillo would seem like a good meeting spot. I am trembling just thinking about how it will torture all three of my friends at once.

"There, there, poor thing." It snickers. I reel back realizing I wasn't shielding my thoughts well enough. "Just think though; when I'm through with these last three, you get to have your body back! You won't have a roommate for much longer now!"

Wait, I get my body back? I thought you were going to kill me too.

"Well now, I think having your best friend's blood on your hands is punishment enough, don't you think?" I shudder. I guess It hasn't finished torturing me as well. 

We are driving down the road now, going to the place Max told Alan to meet her. We slow down once she's in sight. Max is leaning up against a wall looking around trying to find her brother. She glances at the car but the tinted windows keep her from seeing us too clearly and she glances away just as quickly, continuing to survey her surroundings. I wish I could yell out a warning to her, but It has gotten more cautious since the last time It hunted and is suppressing me much more carefully now.

It slows the car down to a stop near Max. She glances curiously at the car. Her curiosity soon turns to fear though as It throws the car door open and before Max can react, clocks her as hard as It can, knocking her out. It grabs rope out of the backseat and binds her as quickly as It can and throws Max into the backseat. We drive away quickly, back towards our hideout.

I shield my thoughts, though It probably wouldn't overhear me anyway with how much it is cheering and patting Itself on the back for a hunt well done but I don't take any chances.

Max looked terrified, yes, but she didn't look surprised. And more importantly; where is Jacob?
