I flip the pancakes on the griddle. My roommate comes out of her evil infested den of a room and sits down on the counter. I wish Jade would have known the real me. She didn't know that I was adventurous and outgoing. That Katie disappeared along with Jacob. She didn't know where Katie went. Instead, Jade knew a scared, whimpering Katie that couldn't stand being alone for longer than a minute. She knew the clingy Katie that never went out after 6 p.m. for fear of getting caught in the dark.

“Good morning, dear Kitty.” she says, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. That's how she saw me, a poor, little, abandoned kitty. She has no idea what this kitty went through, though. This kitty still has claws.

“Morning” I reply because this morning was not a good one. Today. Was the day everyone had to fight for survival or feel relief. Though I wasn't pinging too hard on the latter option. I felt it in my stomach, the way it rolls with unquenchable fear. Today was not going to be a good day.

I set a stack of pancakes in front of Jade. She looks at me funny.

“None for you?” she asks.

“No appetite.” I replied. She must see how pale I am. She learned not to ask. The only thing she did was touch my shoulder in a way that was meant to be comforting. I could not be comforted, though.

I was dreading the text from my friends that she had woken up. I was not prepared for the text that did come, though. Six words were all it took to turn all our worlds upside down. I didn't think it was possible, but I felt myself go paler as I read the text.

Ready or not, here I come.- Grim
