"Someday" rang through my noggin. It rang true, just like the "Rewrite the Stars" song. I had the "Someday" song on repeat during my lunch break that actually took place in the high school cafeteria. We were filming a scene in there with the aliens, meaning with Matt, Terry and Kyra. They looked spectacular with their blue hair and shiny silver outfits.
I had my earbuds in as I watched them converse with... Milo. He was back to his zombie self. He glanced at me for a moment, then looked away. That was when Matt looked over. I got back to my song and stared at the screen on my phone as the lyrics played on the video.
Someday
This could be, this could be ordinary
Someday
Could we be something extraordinary?
You and me side by side
Out in the broad daylight
If they laugh, we'll say
We're gonna be someday
Someday, somedaySo let them talk if they wanna (If they wanna, if they wanna)
Let them talk if they're gonna
We're gonna do what we wanna
Let them talk, let them talk
If they wanna, they wannaMaybe I should just start something with Milo and deal with the consequences. People would talk. That was the most that would happen. Right? His reputation or image wouldn't be ruined, right? Plus, we were already seen together at the charity gala.
"Hey, Maeve," Matt said as he came over and sat next to me. "Sorry, you're listening to something."
I pulled my earbuds out. "No, it's over. How's it going?"
"Better, now that I'm talking to you."
One of my eyebrows went up. "Wow, really? Does that line really work for you?"
He shrugged. "It's the truth. So... I saw that you and Milo went to a party last night. You're all over the internet." He pulled out his phone. "See?"
I really didn't want to deal with another guy at the moment, even if he was closer to my age, and by six years. "I've seen the articles."
"You looked really gorgeous. I mean, you always do, but here, wow..."
My chest pinched in annoyance. "Thank you, Matt. Please excuse me. Restroom."
"Okay."
Hopefully he caught on that I wasn't in the mood for him to be hitting on me. He remained there, and I had to walk passed Milo and company to exit this area. We met gazes for a moment as I passed, then I left the cafeteria. We greeted each other earlier when we first got here, but after... nothing. This was so hard. I felt like I was actually in high school again, with my ex after we broke up. The longing look...
"I seriously can't even," I breathed. "Maybe I should just go home and have Mike be on my camera." But then what would I do the other days I had to work? "I don't know..." I whined.
I went out to the hallway where the restrooms were, and I leaned against the wall right near the women's one. I stared at the wall across from me, my head and heart all a jumble. I pulled out my phone. Michaela would just tell me to go for it like she told me to just kiss Milo's adorable face.
Oh, how I wanted to do that...
The people in the cafeteria started making more noise, like the break was close to over, and everyone would have to get in their places, cast and crew alike. I really didn't want to go out there.
I stood, leaning against the wall for a couple more minutes, and then I heard footsteps coming towards me. Were they Milo's? Would he talk to me after not doing so all day? Did he get passed the awkwardness?"
My heart started racing as the footsteps came closer, and I stared at the floor now. The cologne of the person wasn't the same as Milo's. I looked up to see who came up to me, and I saw Matt there. I let out a long sigh in disappointment through my nose and looked away from him.
