I slowly pulled back the string, and I peered down the side of the arrow. The snake was right there, not moving, not noticing I am right there. I closed my eyes, opened them, and I let the arrow fly. It whizzed through the air, going toward their target. The snake started to dart away, but it was too slow. The arrow struck it, and the snake went limp.

I grinned with satisfaction, and I stood up. That would be the fourth snake for today. Enough to feed me and Penelope for a few days. I picked up my kill, and I took the arrow out. I wiped the arrow across my side, and I put it in my quiver.

"Now, time to get back." I said.

I walked back to a rock where I hid my earlier catches. I dug them up, and I brought them back. When I got there, Penelope was putting out the blankets. I walked over to the fire, and I put a snake on a rock. I then put the rock into the fire.

"What the heck! Why are you putting the rock in the fire?" said Penelope, storming over to me.

"Because there is no river for miles. Plus, the ground is as dry as fire." I said, looking around for I stick I could use.

"But that doesn't mean-"

"Yes it does. If there is no water, there is no rocks that can blow us up." I said, picking up a stick.

"But-"

"But nothing. We're safe. And you got to calm down." I said, dropping the stick next to the fire.

Penelope put her arms down in defeat, and sighed.

"Is there anything I can do then?" she asked.

"Not that I can think of."

She nodded, then sat down next to me. She started to draw in the ground, not looking up. I looked over at what she was drawing, but noticed it was just a bunch of squiggles. I looked back to the fire, and I watched the snake.

After the snake was done cooking, and after we ate it, we started to plan for the next day.

"So, since you tell me that there is some robbers-"

"No."

"Let me finish!" I said, with a sigh. "Since there is some robbers, I thought after they left, we could check the place out."

Penelope thought for a while, the said, "Ok, but only tomorrow."

I nodded, then said, "That's the only thing I want to do other than running forever."

"Fine."

I looked up, and said, "It looks like we should go to sleep. We need our energy for tomorrow."

Penelope nodded, then crawled over to her blanket. I got up, and walked over to the fire. I stomped it out, then smeared the ashes over the ground. I put some rocks over the ashes, then went over to my blanket. I got laid down on the blanket. Penelope wrapped her arms around me, and started to doze off. Before she did though, she kissed me. I kissed her back, then went to sleep.

"Why am I going to the Gernun Mountains?" I asked Clint.

"I can't answer that for you." replied Clint.

"Ok...then why do I need to go to there?"

"Because you are needed."

"For?"

"You will figure that out when you get there."

"That's not helping."

"I can't help much though. Until you get to the mountains, you aren't safe. So, I can't tell you many things."
