As I sat in front of the fire, making arrow heads out of the antlers, I thought about Lanvestt. It was a small town, not far from the sea. It also wasn't guarded at all, so it was prone to attacks. It also was a town of healers, and merchants.
"And weird happenings." I said to myself.
The town was also known for the weird things that happen there. Many people get taken away from these black cloaked men, and white robbed women. They never returned. Some people are just rejected because of the weird things they can do.
"That's me." I said to myself.
I was rejected by everyone. No one took me in. They all didn't want me as a part of their lives. So, in response to that, I went to the forest. It was a dark, lonely place, with all kinds of sounds. I came to like these sounds, making my fear of things go away. I also learned how to hunt, and how to fight. Gangs would come out in the night, and try to beat me up.
I always won.
Then the people came. They begged me to come with them, telling me that I am special, and I am not like the others. I just hid from them. But one day, a different person came. He said he was my guardian. He taught me how to fight with the sword, and how to shoot true with the bows and arrows.
Then one day, he said he had to leave. I pounded him with questions, not knowing what might happen. He then gave me my weapons that I still wear and use today. He left, and never returned. After those days, I was mad at him. Then, I got use to not being with him. The days went by, and soon, I was 13.
A dark person came, and told me to go with him. I said no. He left. He came back the next day. He then asked me if I wanted to learn magic. I thought about it for days, then finally, I said yes. He taught me magic, and the forgotten language. Then, one day he never came back.
I then began to notice that there were flashes of light in the sky. They were not the sun, or clouds, but magic. People fell from the sky, and sank into the ground. People then began to watch me, making sure I don't go past a certain point in the forest.
Then, the people stopped coming all together. No more teaching, no more begging to go with people, no more. So, I began to venture around, and I began to know the place. I made myself remember every pathway, every town, everything. I then made a life for myself.
The girl moaned.
I looked at her, and I sat there, frozen. She then opened an eye, then closed it. She then opened it again, and closed it.
"Where am it?" she asked, groggily.
"In the forest." I said, calmly.
"Who are you?" she then said.
"That will come in time." I said.
I put my carved arrow heads in my quiver, and I turned my body towards her.
"Why am I here?" she asked.
"Because you fell out of a tree, and you aren't healed." I said.
She groaned, and opened both her eyes.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Why would you want to know?"
"Because if I need to call you, I don't just call, 'Girl! Where are you?' Got it?" I said.
She stared at me, then said, "If I tell you my name, you have to tell me yours." She said.
I nodded, then said, "James."
"What?"
"My name is James." I said.
"Hm...my name is Penelope." She said.
"Hello, then, Penelope." I said, putting out my hand for her to shake.
She tried to move so her arm was available fore use, but instead she just said, "Owwww..."
I put my hand down,
"Ok, shaking won't work." I said.
"I don't shake anyone's hand." said Penelope.
"Ah." I said.
There was an odd silence after that. The fire crackled. Penelope sniffed. I shifted my position.
"Tell me about yourself." She said.
"What?"
"Tell me about yourself." She said again.
I sat for a while thinking.
"Well, I don't know where to start, but here it goes," I said.
I then told her about my early life, how the man taught me how to use swords and bows, and about the other man that taught me magic, about the flashes of light, and about the disappearance of the people. When I finished, she nodded.
"Now tell me yours." I said.
"My what?"
"Your story." I said.
She sighed, and said, "Tomorrow."
I raised an eyebrow, then nodded.
I stomped out the fire, and I laid myself down.
