I watched Brandon and J.J. walk in the doors and poked my head around the side. A couple of gaurds stepped in front of them and held their hands up. "Hold it. Visiting hours are over. You have to go home."
Brandon seemed nervous but, J.J. crossed her arms. "I want to see my mother! She said I should come and talk to her."
The gaurds glanced at each other. "That's fine but, it'll have to be tomorrow. Come back in the morning."
"But, I want to see her now." She turned to Brandon. "Make him let me see my mom."
Brandon cleared his throat. "Sir, if we could, can't we just-"
"No! You have to be mean, Gorge! You have to demand we see her!" J.J. cut him off and shook her finger in his face.
"Is there a problem?" A doctor asked, walking away from his desk and coming over.
I saw my chance and slipped past quickly, ducking behind the desk and opening file drawers. I made sure not to make noise as I riffled through the files and looked for the 'J' section.
When I found it I looked from 'A' to 'C' until I found Candice. She was on the second floor, room 28. I slipped the file back in the filing cabinet and peeked over the desk.
J.J. was still arguing and Brandon looked worried. I waved my hands, signaling for them to make the doctor and gaurds move away from the door to the stairs.
J.J. didn't see me but, Brandon did. He glanced at the commotion going on and said, "Well, enough fighting. We're just going to go see her now."
He pulled J.J. with him towards the first floor doors and went to push them open. While the guards and doctor shouted and blocked their way I hurried to the stairs and ran up quickly.
When I reached the second floor I peeked out carefully and looked around. No one was in the hall and, thankfully, no one was at the desk.
I glanced around as I walked down the hall. It was so quiet it gave me shivers. Being a mental hospital, I had half expected there to be shouts and screams from crazy patients.
I saw the room number for Candice's room and hurried towards the door. I went to open it and rolled my eyes in annoyance. It was locked.
I didn't even know where to start to look for a key. It'd obviously be in one of the desks but, which one? I didn't know what doctor attended to Candice.
I sighed. I should have looked when I had her file. I headed for the front desk on this floor and started going through the files again. Fortunately, they had a file on every patient on every floor for the doctor's conveniences.
Before I found the file though, a door on the other side of the hall opened and a doctor walked out. I hid behind the desk and prayed that they went away.
*******
(Brandon's POV)
I pulled J.J. towards the doors. "Come on. We'll just have to try again tomorrow, okay?"
She fake grumbled but, followed me outside. "Did Jeff make it in?" She asked.
I nodded. "He ran past while we moved the them away. I hope he's found Candice already."
"How was my acting?"
I frowned and glanced at her. "It was fine. But, next time, could you not be so whiny? I'm sure I wasn't the only one annoyed with you in there."
She pouted. "I did good. I was being annoying on purpose. If I hadn't been they'd have suspected something."
"Whatever." I leaned on the side of the car and scanned around the building for Jeff. I didn't think he'd fail but, I was still worried.
