Chapter 14 - Taking Down HYDRA

THE NEXT DAY-LATVIA

Walking around Steve and Rose look over the rubble of the former Hydra base, searching for any sign of remaining soldiers. Up in the mountian near by, Bucky watches the pair through his rifle spy glass. Looking up to the broken wall, he spots a soldier sneaking around pointing their rifle at them. Acting quickly, Bucky fires at the soldier knocking them dead. Steve and Rose look to the soldier, watching the body roll down the hill of rubble. Turning to look up into the mountains, Steve salutes to Bucky as Rose nods in thanks. Bucky looks on, silently reloading his rifle.

Hearing footsteps running towards them, Rose pushes Steve to the ground and throws up a wall of ice, bullets richoeting off it. Glancing over to Steve, Rose nods as he gets ready for the wall of ice to drop. Falling to the ground, the wall of ice drops as well, allowing Steve to throw his shield knocking the soldiers down. Bouncing back, Rose grabs it, spinning around and hurling it towards another small group, having it bounce off them and back to Steve.

Walking over to Rose, Steve grins proudly, "a girl wielding my shield? You're after my heart, Ice Raven."

"Well then we aren't so different Captain," Rose counters, grinning happily.

Dum Dum walks around the rubble, shouting out to the pair, "let's go lovebirds! We gotta get moving."

The pair look up to the man, nodding to him. Giving each other one more glance, Steve and Rose begin walking over to the commandos, Bucky offering the woman a hand when she slips. "Such a gentleman," Rose teases Bucky, giving Steve a playful look.

"Keep up punk," Bucky tells Steve, grinning jokingly.

"Don't start something jerk," Steve counters back, also grinning.

"Boy's stop," Rose playfully scolds them, the group making their way back to their camp, "you're both gentlemen, don't change that."

The two stand at attention, saluting her, "yes ma'ma."

"Let's go Mr America and Heartbreaker," Rose giggles, waving them forward. Continuing to walk with the other guys, Rose dosen't hear the conversation the two friends have about her.

"I say we bring her in," Bucky encourage's his frined, "come on pal. Why so nervous?"

"Me? I'm not," Steve stutters, "yes, I am nervous. Can you blame me pal? She's the first woman I've had such an interest in, and I've screwed up three times. This may be overstepping that final chance she's given me."

"Fine, if your not gonna ask her then I will," Bucky says, running ahead of Steve quickly.

"No, Bucky!" Steve shouts, jogging over to him.

"Hey Rosalie," Bucky calls out to her, "how do you feel about being brought into our friend group?"

"Call me Rose please, we have known each other for a while now," Rose tells Bucky, "but what do you mean?"

"Nothing," Steve cuts in, "he's just talking nonsense."

"Steven," Rose clears her throat, the man turns to the woman. "Let him talk."

"In this short amount of time, each of us have grown closer to each other," Bucky admits, Rose nodding along as Steve looks nervous, "Stevie and I have this pact where we remain together till the end of the line, no matter what. We support each other and have each other's back's through every thing."

"And you want me to be apart of this pact?" Rose questions the brunette man, looking over to Steve.

"I do," Bucky admits, "Stevie here is nervous on how you'll take this offer. And yes your frozen highness, I am aware of the feelings you have for each other."

Rose blushes at Bucky's words, but clears her throat. "I'm very honered by this offer," Rose says, sticking her hand out for Bucky, "till the end of the line."

"Till the end of the line, your frozen highness," Bucky grins joyously, taking Rose's hand . The two look over to Steve, staring at him expanctly.

"You're open to this?" Steve asks, gazing at Rose for clarification. Rose simply nods, smiling softly at Steve. "Then till the end of the line, together," Steve nod, placing his hand over Bucky and Rose's joined hands.

Breaking away, the three of them walk towards the rest of the Howling Commandos ready to face the last remaining Hydra bases and men.

IN ITALY

Rose walks through the woods, keeping an eye out for any Hydra soldiers. Coming to the edge of the woods, she spots men patrolling the perimeter of a building. Covering herself with ice, Rose whistles loudly alerting the commandos to move forward. Soon enough the building is broken down, the only thing remaining a single wall of the building.

Rose walks over to Steve, the two searching for anymore men. Leaving the area, they begin walking towards the commandos, but drop when shots are fired, both in front of them and behind.

The moment the noises cease, Steve and Rose pick up their heads, an expasterd look covering their faces. "Gives us a warning next time gentlemen," Steve lectures the men, both of them standing up from the ground as Rose looks at her arm.

"No kidding," Rose says, gesturing towards the blood that flows from her arm, but the bullet wound freezes over healing it.

IN POLAND

In the middle of the night, Steve and Rose knock down oncoming Hydra soldiers. Turning around, Rose flings icicle's at men behind her. Just then an explosion goes off, blasting Steve away, making Rose run toward him, a spear of ice forming in her hand. Flinging it away, it spears a man through the neck.

Stopping by Steve, Rose offers him a hand, helping him up. "We don't have much time," Rose tells him, nodding over to the incoming tank.

"You want a boost up there?" Steve asks, squaring his feet as Rose backs away for a running start.

"You sure about this?" Rose asks nervously.

"You getting nervous all of a sudden?" Steve lightly teases her, the woman shaking her head 'no'. Charging towards Steve, she jumps onto his shield allowing him to propel her upwards. Landing on the tank, Rose freezes her fist punching the lock on the lid off the tank. Steve jumps up beside Rose, pulling the lid open and takes the Hydra soldier out. Jack runs by the tank on the ground, tossing a pack of explosives up to the pair. Catching it right over his head, Steve chucks it into the tank letting Rose kick it shut. They run, jumping off the tank just as it explodes.

LATER THAT DAY AT THE SAME BASE

Red Skull and Zola stand on somewhat even ground of rubble, looking around at the burning Hydra base. "You are failing! We are close to an offensive that will shake this planet," Red Skull yells, he turns to Zola, "and we are continually delayed because you can not outwit a simpleton with a shield and simple woman!"

"It is hardly my area of expertise," Zola rebuttals back, waving his hand around, "I, I merely develop the weapons. I... I cannot fire them."

"Finish your mission, Doctor," Red Skull says coldly, turning his annoyed gaze on to Zola, "before the American and Raven finish their's."

"Sir!" a soldier calls out, walking forward with a beaten and dirty man.

"I'm sorry Herr Schmidt," the man says, "we fought till the last man."

"Evidently not," Red Skull pulls out his gun, shooting the man dead.
