SETUP FOR THE BUN IN THE OVEN

The morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow in Chun-Li's apartment. She was bustling around, preparing for another day of work at the Interpol headquarters. Sonic, however, was still cozily nestled in bed.

"Sonic, I've got to get ready for work," Chun-Li called from the bathroom, her voice carrying a mix of urgency and determination.

The blue hedgehog, wrapped in the bedsheets, looked up with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Come on, Chun-Li, you can spare a few more minutes," he teased, patting the empty space next to him.

Chun-Li chuckled, glancing at the clock. "Sonic, time is of the essence. I can't be late for another meeting."

Undeterred, Sonic wiggled his eyebrows. "Who says you can't be fashionably late? Plus, I have something important to tell you."

Intrigued, Chun-Li walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. "Alright, what's this important news?"

Sonic pulled her into a tender embrace, his quills gently tickling her face. "I had a little chat with your boss yesterday."

Chun-Li raised an eyebrow, "Really? What about?"

With a sly grin, Sonic dropped the bombshell. "I told him about our little bun in the oven, and he's ready to give you a year off work. Paid, of course."

Chun-Li's eyes widened in surprise. "A year off? Sonic, you didn't have to do that."

Sonic kissed her forehead. "I know, but I want you to have some time to relax, focus on the baby, and not stress about work. You've been working hard, Chun-Li. You deserve a break."

Chun-Li's heart swelled with a mix of gratitude and love. "Sonic, that's incredibly sweet of you. But I can't just take a whole year off. There's so much to do at Interpol."

Sonic held her hands, his green eyes sincere. "Chun-Li, you're incredible at what you do. They'll manage without you for a bit. Besides, we can use this time to prepare for the little one's arrival, enjoy each other's company, and maybe go on a few adventures."

Chun-Li's eyes softened. "Adventures, huh?"

Sonic grinned. "Yeah, like exploring the city together, trying out new restaurants, and maybe even a babymoon to someplace special. Just you and me."

Chun-Li couldn't help but smile at Sonic's infectious enthusiasm. "You're really excited about this, aren't you?"

Sonic nodded, his expression earnest. "Absolutely. This is a big moment for us, Chun-Li, and I want it to be special. Plus, I've always wanted to be a dad. We're in this together."

Chun-Li cupped Sonic's cheek, a tender warmth in her eyes. "Thank you, Sonic. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. A year off might be a bit much, but I'll talk to my boss about taking some time for maternity leave. And as for adventures, I'm up for it."

Sonic's face lit up. "That's the spirit! Now, what do you say we spend a few more minutes right here?"

Chun-Li laughed, "You drive a hard bargain, Sonic." But she snuggled closer, savoring the precious moments with her hedgehog husband.
