Ch.28

Katniss's Pov

I wake up pretty early today. It is even earlier than Peeta. I decide that I want to go hunting today. I untangle myself from Peeta, take a shower, and put on my dad's hunting boots and jacket. I braid my hair in its normal braid.

I kiss Peeta on the cheek and go downstairs to collect my game bag. I write Peeta a note saying that I have left to go hunting.

I walk out and go to the forest. I walk to the hollow log that I have always put my bow and arrows in. I grab them and start to hunt.

I have gotten three squirrels and five birds so far. I think that is good for now. I start to head home. I have been waking for a good two minutes but then I heard a noise. I am not quite sure what it was. So, I raise my now and have an arrow lock and loaded.

I turn to where the noise came from. I see four dark figures. They keep coming closer and closer.

"Please don't shoot Katniss!" One of the figures exclaims. It sounds like a man and a old man at that.

"How do you know who I am and who are you?" I ask all four of them.

They step closer to me."dint come any closer or I will shoot and if you actually know me, you know that I don't miss." I threaten.

"Katniss please don't shoot. It's just us. The Mellark's." another voice says. It sounds like a man also.

"You can't be the Mellark's. They were killed in the bombing of district twelve." I state.

"No we were able to escape before it got us. We have been loving in the woods since." says another voice. Again, a man's.

"Show yourselves." I say but still don't put my weapon down. Just in case.

All of the figures move forward. They come into the light and notice that it is in fact the Mellark's.

"Oh my god." I say

"Now do you believe us?" I think the older brother, I don't know his name, says.

"Yes. I do but how?" I ask. "wait never mind how, let's just go and get you cleaned up. Peeta will be so excited." I say waving then over to where I am heading.

I out my bow and arrows back and we walk. I stop at the fence out of old habit. Then I climb underneath.

"Katniss the fence is never on." Mr.Mellark laughs.

"I know that but old habits never go away. Thread had turned it on and I had to jump from," I say looking for the tree that I had to jump from that have me a broken ankle."that tree and I ended up with a broken ankle." I laugh when I finally find the tree.

We have reached the gates if the victors village soon enough. I start walking to Peeta and I's house.

"Stay here for a second." I tell the Mellark's.

I open the door and see Peeta on the couch. "Peeta I have a surprise for you." I say sweetly.

"Really?" He smirks.

"Yeah you want it?" I ask

"Yeah sure." he smiles.

I wave for the Mellark's to come in. So they do.

I wish that I could have gotten a picture of Peeta's face when he saw them. He looked so happy.

"Dad! Spencer! Rye! Mother!" He exclaims ecstatically and runs up to hug them.

"Hello son." his father says smiling widely.

"I can't believe this! If this is a dream I really have some problems." he laughs.

"Nah bro this isn't a dream it's real." The middle brother says.

I start to walk ini the kitchen to attempt to make squirrel stew. I start to skin the squirrel. Then I throw it in a pot to boil.

Peeta comes in a couple minutes later. "Peeta you should be with your family." I scold.

"I have to thank you don't I? I mean if you didn't go hunting today then you wouldn't have seen my family and you wouldn't have brought them back to me. So, thank you." He says kissing me.

"Your very welcome." I say after he breaks the kiss.

"I love you." he states.

"I love you too." I reply and kiss him again.

"So you finally got the girl. Great job man." the middle brother says.

"Ugh Katniss this is Rye. The middle Mellark." Peeta says.

"Nice to meet you." I say politely.

"Good job lil bro." says the oldest brother who I am assuming is Spencer since that is what Peeta called him earlier.

"I finally got her." Peeta says proudly while putting a protective arm around my waist.

"Wait you got the girl!" Exclaims Peeta's mother. I haven't heard her talk at all since I found them and this is the first words that come out if her mouth. Wow.

"Yes mother. What did you think that it could never happen?" Rye asks.

"I mean he has been after her since he was five mother." Spencer backs up Rye and Peeta.

"No I thought he might have chance. Jut not with a seam girl." she says plainly.

"Really mother! Can you not just be happy for me at least for once. And if it wasn't for Katniss here, you wouldn't even be in my house right now!" Peeta screams at her.

"Peeta calm down." I say.

I see his eyes start to flicker from blue to black. I think that his family might notice this also. He is having a flashback.

"Get out now." I say.

"But what is happening?" Rye asks.

"Don't ask questions."

They start to back away slowly. "Peeta please stay with me. I love you."

"YOU DONT LOVE ME! YOU ARE JUST A MUTT! THE MUTT THT KILLED A LOT OF PEOPLE. YOU EVEN GOT YOU SISTER KILLED!" He screams at me.

I am now crying. Why did he have to bring Prim up. I know that he has no control but he just had to bring her up didn't he?!

His hand goes up into the air and spots it's target. It goes strait for my face. He slaps me. Hard. I fall to the ground.

I attempt to regain my balence. I get up and run. I run to Haymitch's house.

"Haymitch please help! Peeta is having an episode and I can't stop it!" I scream cry.

Then i remember when I kissed him and it stopped. So I attempt to do that. I grab his face in my hands and kiss him.

Soon he kisses back. I pull away and look at him. His eyes aren't black anymore. Thy are back to the ocean blue that makes me fall in love all over again everything Ike that I look at them.

"You love me, real or not real?" He asks

"Real. Forever and Always." I smile and kiss him again.
