Luka's POV

Marinette's my other soulmate.

I've known that since she bumped into me the other day. Her stupid clumsiness is annoying at best and infuriating at worst. Why was I supposed to be stuck with her for the rest of my life?

"I-I-I'm f-f-fine t-t-t-thank y-y-you." she had said. Her stutter is barely audible. It sounds like she's speaking complete gibberish.

I don't get why guys find blushing cute. To me, she looks like a red tomato with black hair. Stupid.

Her figure is shaped like a pencil and her limbs are practically sticks. Does she ever eat? Doesn't she know that skinny girls are ugly? Poor her.

I'm supposed to start at her school today. I just know she'll volunteer to help us, and I'll have to put up with that stupid, high, nasally voice. I bet she's gushing about me to her hot friend, Alya.

"It's really hot in here Luka... Why don't you take off your jumper?" She coos. I know her pathetic game. She just wants to look at my wrist and see if we're actually soulmates. Unfortunately, we are. I shrug her off, saying "I don't feel hot, it's probably just you Marinette." I roll my eyes. Her long boring speech about the school is making me doze off. Why do I must know about cubicles one through six? Is she okay?

Marinette finishes her stupid analogy of the school bathroom. Thank you so much for giving me such a detailed explanation of cubicle three and all its properties. She takes us out to the courtyard in the 40 DEGREE SUN. (I'm from Australia so I use Celsius. It's 104 Fahrenheit for y'all Americans) Soon, I'm sweating. Her eyes increase in size as she stares at the sweat dripping from my neck. All I have to do is breathe and this girl will go all puppy-eyed on me. I wipe away the sweat on my neck and roll up my sleeves, not thinking. I hear a gasp. Crap. Now she knows. Now I have to deal with her now that she's going to latch on to me like a parasite.

"L-L-L-Luka y-y-your m-m-my s-soulmate," she says happily. I give her a look. "Wow, I would have never known Marinette!" The sarcasm goes right through her head. "W-w-well n-now t-t-that you know now, w-w-what is g-g-going t-to h-h-h-h-h-h-h-a-a-p-p-p-e-e-e-n-n-n?" She says the last word with so much stuttering that my temper rises. Juleka places a hand on my arm, lightly squeezing it. I recognize the code:

Keep your temper in check. Don't do what happened last time.

I take a deep breath. Marinette eyes grow larger as she runs her eyes down my muscular body. My temper spikes again. This girl. I can't stand to be in her presence any longer. I begin to walk away, completely ignoring her previous question as I call out "I'm going to the bathroom."

I needed to cool down. I hear more footsteps following me, and thinking it's Marinette I shout "GO AWAY!".

I turn around and see Juleka. Oh. She sighs. "Luka, I know you don't like that girl but she hasn't done anything wrong. Control yourself otherwise, we're going to get expelled again." I run my hands through my blue hair.

"It's just that girl... Everything about her annoys me...and reminds me of her." I say. Juleka looks at me like she knows something I don't. She sighs. "Look, Marinette is smitten about you. Can't you give her a chance?" I shake my head. Not with what happened last time.

I look behind me, looking for Marinette. I see her walking towards us, a bounce in her step that gets on my nerves. "Everything ok?" she asks. Her innocent bluebell eyes bore into mine, and I had to clench my fists and do everything not to punch her face. Her eyes, her body, her mannerisms, everything about her annoys me.

I plaster a forced fake smile. "Yep, Juleka is just asking about the... the boat. Anyway go, me and Juleka need to talk. In private."

Marinette smiles nods happily and walks away to the school. Heat rises in my cheeks, the 40-degree sun definitely not helping. "I need to get inside," I grunt out.

Juleka follows me, whispering. "Luka, please, you need to control your temper. Mom can't afford to send us to another school if you get us expelled again. She's not here ok? She moved away. Can't you just restart again?" Rage clutches my heart. "No. You don't just 'restart again' when your soulmate is gone!" I shout.

My voice echoes across the school, and people look at me strangely. I clench my hair with my hands.

Not again.

"Hi, Luka!" A melodic voice wafts through the hallways of the school. I smile as my girlfriend walks up and punches me in the shoulder. "Wanna hang out after school?" she says. Her blonde hair is streaked with pink. "Did you dye your hair?" I ask. Zoe laughs.

"Of course I did idiot!" She smiles. "So...Are you coming or not?" she says. I jerk out of my daydreaming state. She was just so beautiful. "Yeah," I say dumbly. She laughs and pulls me to class.

"Are you sure it's a good idea?" I ask again. Zoe stands behind me with her gloves coated in blue dye. "Well, it's too late now!" She laughs as she plunges her hand into my hair.

"You missed so much!" I look in the mirror. Only my ends were dyed blue. I look at Zoe and she shrugs. "Who cares? You'll always look like a cotton candy now." Juleka stands next to Zoe, her hair freshly dyed purple. I sigh. Only Zoe could make something bad look good. Me included.

"I've always loved you, you know. Ever since I fell over at the park and you picked me up. I remember thinking how beautiful you looked in your sneakers." I say. Our legs are intertwined as the refreshing afternoon breeze wafts past our faces. Zoe snorts. "Of course, you'll fall for me. Everyone does eventually." She winks. Our hands find each other and intertwine. She leans her head on my shoulder, sighing.

I couldn't have pictured a better moment.

I stare at her pink lips, looking back at her. We lean into each other and I savour the honey scent of her hair and her warm breath on my face. I love her so much.

Our faces touch as our lips are about to meet. This is it. We're going to finally seal the soulmate bond between us. The one that the Gods made for us.

Her blue eyes bore into mine, blue as the summer sky. Our fingers intertwine as our chests touch. Just one more hairsbreadth and she would be mine-

"Luka, what's that!?" A voice calls. My heart sinks. A girl is pointing at my wrist. I look down, and Zoe does too.

"WE'RE OVER LUKA," she screams as she packs her bags. "It's not my fault, I'm sorry!" I say, grabbing her arm. I don't want her to go back to New York, I don't know when she'll ever return again. "Let. Go. Of. My. Arm." She says through her teeth. I've never seen her this upset. I release her arm and she walks to the car. "I didn't control it, please!" I say, tears pouring down my cheeks.

"I don't care. It means that I'm not the only one anymore. Goodbye, Luka." Zoe says. Her chauffeur throws me a sad look and starts the car. I watch it disappear in the distance as the rain pours down.

I look at my wrist, where the red string connecting me and Zoe is.

But instead of one string, there are two.

Those days were the worst of my life. I was directionless without Zoe, purposeless without her. She was gone.

I looked at my red string, the reason why she was taken away from me. The reason why she gone. Fury engulfs me, consuming me that I can barely think.

I hate you Marinette.

And I will do everything to make you pay.
