Adrien's POV
I don't bother going up to my father's office and pleading my case. The pigeons are going to be a permanent part of my life whether I like it or not.
The car arrives at the mansion and it skids to a stop. Walking out, I furiously wipe away the tears streaming down my face and toss the article of my misery: leather boots with a gods forbid, pigeon feather.
"Adrien don't throw your father's-" Nathalie begins. I cut her off and walked away, stomping into my room. I throw the gold wristwatch I'm wearing into the corner of the room, satisfied when the 60k gold chips.
I don't even allow the feeling of satisfaction to last. Soon, my father would call me up to his office again and lecture me, cutting me off if I argued back. No matter how many times I trash his designs, he'll still control me like the tyrannical ruler that he is.
My hands dig into my scalp in defeat. I had no one to talk to. The only person I had a meaningful conversation with was the baker's daughter. I didn't even know her name, but she understood more than anyone I had ever met. More than the models that I worked with. More than Nathalie, and definitely more than my father.
I sit up, maybe I could talk to her! Opening my bedroom door, I ran down the staircase to Nathalie, who hadn't moved since I yelled at her minutes before. "Please I can have the pastries from my favourite shop Nathalie? I'll stop wrecking my father's designs." I say.
Nathalie's eyebrows scrunch together, confused at my sudden change of emotions. Eventually, she nods. "But you have to honor your word, Adrien," she says. I smile internally. Now I have to find a way to make sure both Gorilla and Nathalie aren't present when the pastries arrive.
Watching from my window, I see the telltale bakery's signage on the motorbike. I watch the figure get off and unload the pastries. I stop, confused. Instead of the girl I talked with weeks before, there was a woman with the same midnight black hair as the girl. This must be Sabine, the girl's mother.
Watching Nathalie disappear into my father's room, I ran down the stairs to meet her.
"Hi! I'm Adrien. Are you Sabine?" I say. The woman is wearing a Chinese traditional skirt. She beams. "Yep! I'm Sabine. My daughter Marinette is out on a walk right now, so she's not here to do the deliveries." she says. My heart sinks, but I finally know the name of the girl. Marinette.
I looked at the sky, it was nearly nighttime. "It's getting really late now, are you sure she's safe?" I say. It seemed pretty late to go out on a walk. Sabine looks at the sky too, worry etched on her features. "It is getting pretty late, I don't think she took her phone." she shrugs it off.
"I'm sure she'll be home soon," she says. She hands me the pastries and speeds off.
I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. It wasn't a gut feeling, it was as if every fiber of my being was tingling with a sense. I don't think Marinette was ok.
"ADRIEN!" I hear a scream. I turn around and see Nathalie, anger on her face. I run towards her, panic in my heart.
"Nathalie I think something is wrong. I'm feeling...fear. I don't think she's ok." I say in a hurried rush. "Who?" she says bewildered, confused at my state of agitation.
"Marinette! I don't think she is ok. I think she's in danger." I force out, begging Nathalie to understand. Gorilla emerges from the house, whispering something into Nathalie's ear. I catch the word 'mate'. What did that mean?
"You're going to go to find your soul-, I mean the girl. Be as discreet as possible, because your father doesn't know," she says. I sag in relief.
Getting in the car, me and Gorilla drive off. He seems to be following in the direction of my soulmate string, but why? (I'm sorry but, this will be the only moment when Adrien becomes a dumb blonde) Soon the night is pitch black and he stops the car in an abandoned alleyway. What was this place?
I get out of the car frantically, calling out her name. "Marinette? Marinette?" I shout. Gorilla surrounds me, making sure I'm not in any danger. My heart hammers furiously in my chest, something was really wrong. A scream echoes in the darkness and I pause.
It's a girl's scream, and I'm sure that it belongs to Marinette. I run further into the alleyway, Gorilla following on my tail. I reach a row of small, dirty houses. "Marinette?" I call out once more.
"H-Help-" I hear a small, frail voice calling out in one of the houses. I run towards the house, and see Marinette sobbing on the floor through the glass door. "Break down the door!" I yell to Gorilla as he begins to punch the door. He lifts the door out from its hinges and I reach towards Marinette. She's crying and is shivering beneath my fingers.
"I-It's ok," I say, soothing her, but inside I'm boiling with rage. Who would do this to her? She was acting like she'd been through this before.
I hand Marinette to Gorilla, relief filling my chest. She was safe. I look at her face, sweat beading on her moonlit skin. Gorilla placed her on the back of the car where she immediately falls asleep. My eyes catch on her wrist and my heart skids to a stop.
It can't be.
Marinette's my soulmate.
