This is the plot twist u all have been waiting for. Sorry in advance.

20 years later

Marinette's POV

"I'm here to see Luka Coiffaine." I say tentatively to the prison guard.

"This way." He motions me to the end of a hallway. My heels clack on the cold metal floor. The other prisoners are chained up in their cells, bruised and beaten.

"Turn to the right. He's the first door on the left." The guard says and leaves. I nod appreciatively and turn right, bracing myself to see his face. The path seemed like muscle memory now.

It's been twenty years. Although I loved Adrien with every fiber of my being, his death has caused the red string between me and him to break. I only have one string left. And it leads to him.

"Luka?..." I say when I see his face. His blue hair faded years ago and replaced is a messy mop of black hair. His face is unwashed and a thin layer of sweat coats his skin. Grime and dirt cake his fingernails. His eyes are still shining bright though, clear as a diamond.

"Hello, Marinette." He says and coughs. He spits on the cold hard prison floor and wipes his mouth with the back of his hand.

"How's life treating you?" He smiles, still as sinister as I remember.

"Well, I got the Agreste fortune. I'm richer than the president now. My business has boomed and I'm making two billion dollars as net worth. I have servants to attend to me and a mansion bigger than my wildest dreams. I drink the finest wine and eat the most exotic foods. I've got everything, Luka." I say and smile.

"Except you."

"What can I say Marinette? All those years ago. You were always my soulmate." He says and coughs again, his chest heaving. "It was never Zoe. And it was never Adrien."

I smile. "I know. Adrien made me believe he was my soulmate. But you did everything you could to show me you were mine. Can't believe I still love you even when you've nearly killed me three times." Luka smiles too, his cracked lips dry and grey.

"But you enjoyed it, didn't you?" He says, his voice raspy and dry.

"Oh, I did." I reminisce about the memories. The fear of him killing me. It always felt so good, the electric adrenaline coursing through me, my heart working overdrive. "The injuries were always amazing too," I remember caressing my scars each night, scratching them so they bled longer.

Oh, how beautiful the pain was. Like fireworks under my skin, electrifying the skies. Tingling like starlight, earth-shattering as the moon. And that gunshot! Oh, that was heaven on earth, spreading through my veins like honey.

"I loved the body issues too," I remark and look at my skin. Surgery and surgery, pain after beautiful pain. Now, guys drool over me every time I walk, admiring my oversized breasts and each curve of my waist. My blonde wavy hair and my fake hazel eyes. It felt good to be loved.

"Everything I did was for your own good Mari," Luka says and smiles. He pulls up his sleeve, revealing an ugly scar, marred and covered in rough stitches. "He did this to me," he says. "After he found you bleeding out, he took the gun and shot me. His father commanded the worst medic to heal the wound. It got infected shortly after." He smiles. He looks around, studying the walls before lowering his voice.

"Did you finally do it?"

I nod and smile victoriously, returning the bottle of poison in the folds of his clothing.

"Darling! Your tea is here!" I call out and step into Adrien's study. He smiles his handsome smile.

"Thank you, love, could you leave it on my desk? I need to check something." Adrien says and leaves. I nod, smiling, and place the tea on his wooden oak desk.

I slyly ran an eye over the papers strewn on his desk. I find the one I want and pick it up, grasping it with my nails.

Dear Father,

The Miraculous worked. I've officially changed Marinette to be my soulmate. Plan B will begin. I'll steal her designs just like the Kwami said. Apparently, they hold the secret to our success. Then we'll be richer than anyone else in the world, and our legacy will continue. Thank you.

Adrien.

It's the letter that started everything. It had fallen on the floor the last time I delivered his tea. I had picked up and discovered his true nature written before he even met me. 20 years. 20 years of lies and deceit. Did he ever love me?

Never in all our years of being married did he say "I love you." Only "I need you." or "I can't live without you." He never felt anything for me, he only used me because the Gods told him to. My beautiful designs were stolen, the bane of my existence before I met him.

I uncork the stopper to the bottle and pour the poison into the hot liquid. I had already turned off all the security cameras.

The clear liquid dissolves in the brown substance, erasing any trace that it was ever there. I smile, tears falling down my face and splashing into the tea. I loved him so much.

He'll drink the tea. His face will turn blue and foam will leak out his mouth. He'll fall to the floor and his spittle will leave his lips when he takes his final breath. The police will investigate the mystery, detect the poison in the tea, and blame the maid who made it. They'll never know that I was the one who took it up to him.

I'll play the perfect picture of sadness, just like Luka was on his trial. I'll wear black to the funeral and pretend to be grateful when I'm the sole heir to the Agreste fortune. Gabriel Agreste had passed away years ago, the same poison found in his stomach.

I loved Adrien so much. More than anything in the world. So I gave him his final gift: death. To finally reunite with his mother he always loved.

Luka smiles. "So after everything, Mari. Do you think we finally deserve that kiss?" I nod. He leans in, grasping my hip through the bars of his cage.

His cracked lips meet my mine, as I relish the taste of his ash and wood scent. I feel pain in my arm, the pain in my stomach. All those times he hurt me. It was beautiful.

His lips move with mine, our tongues like swords, fighting for dominance. Heat courses through me, exploding like firecrackers. It was better than any kiss Adrien had ever given me. He pulls me closer to him, my body smashed against the bars. The sharp metal cuts me as blood runs down my arm. I relish it.

Eventually, we pull away, breathing heavily. I look down at our red string, the other two lost in the wind. The red slowly changes to golden, sparkling in the cold gloom of the prison.

After every lie and deceit, Luka will serve his sentence and be released. I'll finally be with my soulmate. My true love. His Marionette.

And no one will ever get in our way again.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Birds in the heavens know I love you

Luka always loved me.

Roses are red,
Violets like sea,
Blue like the tears wept when you left me.

He cried for me each night when I was away from him, wishing I was with him.

Roses are red,
Violets attack,
Just like I will do to get you back.

Just like he did. He tried everything to get me away from Adrien. But he never succeeded. Until now.

Roses are red
Violets will sing
When the body I hide, the body I bring

It was his idea to kill Adrien, his idea to conceal our wrongdoings.

Roses are red,
A song like a clarinet
Here lies, the body of a Marionette.

I'm still the Marionette. Still the puppet being controlled. Luka's still the puppeteer, controlling my strings even in his cold prison. But at least I have some freedom. Even if it's not all the time.

And after 20 long years, I've finally accepted my fate.
