WILL POV
"You're clearly doing a wonderful job. Milo is 10 ½ pounds now so he has gained more than 2 pounds this month. He's nursing well and as you mentioned sleeping for longer stretches so I'd say you can just keep up with what you're doing." Dr. Joplin gave each of us a handshake as Sophie finished getting Milo dressed.
He was still upset after getting a couple immunizations but she nursed him a bit which helped soothe our son. I had the entire day off so our plan was to grab lunch after the Doctor appointment then head home for a nap.
Then again, going straight home for some sleep sounded pretty wonderful.
Milo may be sleeping more now but it seemed to make us even more tired. Soph was hanging on by a thread but Ruth stopped by a couple times a week to cuddle the baby and give her the chance to rest. We didn't ask for the help but it was freely given. It was great to see how supportive the Green family was, especially since my Sophie dealt with the pregnancy alone for so long.
Natural childbirth is a lot for a human body to handle. She was a trooper as far as the pain was concerned but exhaustion is a different animal altogether. Nursing is still taking a lot of her energy, especially since she continues to pump at least once a day to give me the opportunity to bottle feed Milo, so I was doing what I could to give her rest whenever possible.
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I laughed when I saw a text with Addy's name.
ADDISON: So?? How was it?"
WILL: Gained like 2 ½ lb in the last month and ahead on everything, of course. Your nephew is a prodigy.
Sophie peeked at my phone and laughed, "You're not wrong, Will."
"So, we have that really good roast chicken at home so why don't I make us some Chicken Caeser wraps while you finish feeding our Son," I offered, wrapping my arms around her after she got Milo settled into his stroller. "We can save takeout for a night when I'm working and we have less time. This will give us the chance to relax at home together."
She stood on her tiptoes and kissed me then grinned, "You're my favorite, Will."
We enjoyed the warm weather but agreed we would not be able to continue our long walks for too much longer. Milo loved the fresh air but the Doctor reminded us to keep him bundled up even if we are comfortable. Sophie was always cautious about making sure he was warm enough but it was good to get those reminders anyway.
Sophie called her Mom when feeding Milo at home, letting her know the update while I whipped up a our lunch. I brought her food to the couch right as it was time for him to burp so we traded the plate for our son.
She laughed at me as I positioned him on my shoulder with a burp cloth, "I'm getting the better end of this deal."
"Nah, I have a wrap made for myself that I'll grab in a few." I smiled, chuckling as Milo released a loud belch. "You have another one in there, don't you, little love?" He let out a gurgle then burped again before I passed him back after Sophie had a few bites of her lunch. After getting my food and sodas for each of us I let out a sigh, landing next to her on the couch.
Sophie leaned back and smiled at me, "Thank you for coming along today, Will."
"I can't promise I will always be able to make it to appointments but I'm going to do my best. I already have time off for your 6 week checkup so Milo and I can go along or you can go on your own and I'll stay home with him."
"My mom has also offered to stay with him so we can play it by ear when the time comes," she agreed. "I appreciate how much you do as it is. Milo is lucky to have you as his Dad."
