The rest of the day passed by uneventfully, except for the part where I died almost immediately for our daily battle. Jack was out somewhere else, so I had to use my normal sword, which did not end well for me. If you want someone with swordsmanship skills, call literally anyone but me.
When I woke back up on my bed, I figured that no one had been revived yet, so I just plopped down onto my living room couch and turned on the TV. I've never been someone who watches a lot of TV shows or movies, but I wasn't really sure what else to do. Somehow, (I don't know how, or why) they have cable here. I looked through the channels, and I thought that it was really ironic that the Marvel Thor movie was airing right now. I clicked it on, and immediately started laughing about how they got literally everything wrong about Thor, Odin, and Loki.
Suddenly, a loud rustling noise interrupted my movie (Which was actually pretty good, if you ignore the blatant disregard for the actual myths). My hand reached toward Jack, who was now back in pendant form on my neck after his excursion to who knows where (I swear, if Alex says one more time that they went partying without me, I'll chuck him back into the river). I crept towards the atrium, and saw that it was indeed the branches of the central tree that were rustling. I was immediately scared that it was going to be Ratatosk, the giant squirrel that attacked me and trashed my room a while back. Instead, two figures fell out onto the grass.
One had dark skin, dark hair, and was short. He seemed to be wearing some sort of jacket with stylish pants and shoes that matched perfectly together. I knew that this had to be Blitzen the dwarf, one of my best friends. That meant that the other, a pale blonde figure, had to be Hearthstone, another one of my closest friends. Those two were always together.
"Blitz? Hearth? What are you doing here? You could've just knocked on my door like a normal person."
Blitz got to his feet and I realized that his face was all sweaty and dirty. He looked very rumpled, which isn't like him at all. Hearth remained motionless on the floor.
"Kid. You have to help," he said, seemingly out of breath and exhausted. "It's Hearthstone. He's hurt, bad."
I noticed that a pool of red was starting to seep from under Hearth, and I gasped.
"Roll him over! Let me see what's wrong."
Blitz got down onto his knees and heaved Hearthstone over so he was on his back. He looked pale, even paler than normal, which is saying something. His green and pink scarf that Alex had made for him a while back was splattered with blood, and his breathing was labored. Worst of all, I saw a gash, at least a few inches deep, on his right leg. Unfortunately, the skin around it was starting to turn green. Poison. Not good. I hurriedly dropped to my knees and placed my hands on the injury. I could sense the main wound and whatever poison it was infected with, but nothing else bad besides a few bruises.
In my mind, I pictured sunlight, warmth, healing, and summertime. I used the power of Frey, and willed it from my body into Hearth's. The gash closed up easily, but the poison would not leave his body. I called on my power even more, straining with the effort. A faint glow burst through my fingertips. Blitz put his hand on my shoulder, and I finally sensed the poison dissipate. Thank the gods.
I opened my eyes, and I saw that Hearth had stopped sweating, and his breathing had eased. The stomach gash was barely a scar now, but there was still a lot of blood around it. I felt exhausted from using my healing powers, but I had to hear what happened to Hearth.
"We should clean him up. Then, you can explain to me what happened," I said, as Blitz tried to cut me off. "Don't worry, he'll be fine after a few hours of rest."
<<<<..........>>>>
I left the room and went and got some antiseptic wipes from my bathroom. I had quite a stockpile of medical supplies; everyone who got hurt went to me to get healed, and not, I don't know, a licensed doctor. Somehow I was the only son or daughter of Frey in this entire place, leaving my room to be the number one hotspot for injuries. Still, plenty of einherjar who got hurt didn't get any medical attention at all since they knew they would die around lunch time anyway.
I came back and passed some of the wipes to Blitzen, and we started cleaning off any remainders of blood from Hearth's body. I took off his iconic scarf and threw it in the washing machine, hoping that would get the bloodstains out.
Once we finished, I sat back on my knees and looked at Blitz.
"So, you gonna tell me what happened?"
Blitzen looked troubled, but took a deep breath and started his story. "We were in Yggdrasil, minding our own business. I went to this costume party last night in this awesome suit, and-"
"Ok, look. I know you could go on and on about your outfits, but can we get back on topic?"
"Sorry. Anyway, me and Hearth were heading back to Midgard so I could get back to my shop before the morning, when I heard a hissing noise behind us. I grabbed Hearth by the shirt to get him to stop walking, and we both turned around. At first, I thought the monster was a dragon or something, but when I looked closer I realized that it just had the head of a snake. The rest of its body was a leopard, with spots and everything. It definitely does not live in the tree normally. It started running towards us, so we had to sprint as fast as we could to get away from it. Hearth grabbed a rune, and cast it without hesitation. I forget which one it was, but it caused a bunch of hail to rain down onto the thing.
"It only slowed it down, but it also depleted Hearth. He couldn't run as fast, and that's when it caught up to us. It used its snaky neck and snapped at his leg, piercing the skin. Before he passed out, he cast another spell that made the monster erupt into fire. He saved us."
This left me very confused, and worried. This didn't sound like anything I had ever heard of. Norse monsters usually aren't combinations of two animals... that sounds like something more in the Greeks' turf.
Maybe I should ask Annabeth.
"Wow," I shook my head. "I have no idea what that is. But, I know someone who might. Let's put Hearth on my couch or something. We shouldn't just leave him lying here."
Suddenly, I heard tinny music coming from somewhere.
"Hold on, I'll get it!" I called to Blitz. I recognized the ringtone, and searched around for where I left my cell phone. I ran into my bedroom and found it on my bedside table next to the pictures of my family. I checked the caller ID, and realized it was Annabeth, my cousin.
