As Kentarō and Y/n descended the stairs to the kitchen, they were greeted by the sweet sound of their mother's voice. "Good morning, my darlings," she called out to them with an affectionate smile.
The aroma of freshly cooked bacon and eggs wafted through the air, making their mouths water eagerly. Their mother placed two big plates of food on the table and began brewing a pot of coffee, her skilled hands moving with ease.
With school starting in just an hour, their mother offered to drive them there since she needed to head out anyway. The siblings eagerly accepted her offer, grateful for the extra time to relax and prepare for the day ahead. As they sat down to eat, they chatted happily with their mother.
Kentarō, sitting next to Y/n, playfully nudged her side and gestured with his hands to get her attention. Y/n, understanding the message, quickly finished her meal and stood up. She ran towards the bathroom with her twin following closely behind. Their mother was about to say something when she turned around and noticed her children had disappeared. She couldn't help but chuckle at their playful antics.
Y/n giggled as she tossed Kentarō his toothbrush and grabbed her own, smoothing it with toothpaste. "I can't believe you still remember the secret sign language we made up when we were five."
"I've been practicing. I still remember what everything means." He chuckled, ruffling her hair before continuing to brush his teeth.
"Kids! I'm about to leave if you still need a ride to school." The twins quickly spit their toothpaste into the sink and race for the door, playfully fighting over who gets to go out first.
As Kentarō quickly tried to make his way through the door, his shoulder was swiftly grabbed, and he was thrown backward slightly as Y/n raced out the door, flipping him off as she laughed.
He grinned widely and growled as he playfully chased after her, ultimately throwing her over his shoulder and causing her to shriek. "Ken, put me down!"
"I don't think so, N/n!" he exclaimed. "You dug this hole; now lay in it!" The humor in his voice was evident as he chuckled, his chest tightening from laughing so hard. Without warning, playfully threw her onto the couch.
She couldn't help but laugh as he ran out the front door, shouting, "I call shotgun!" His playful antics always managed to lift her mood.
The perfect way for siblings to act before school, right? This happened almost every morning, but it always stopped as they began their journey to school.
As they sat in the car, there was nothing but silence. It seemed like the only place where they felt happy was at home, where they could be siblings without anyone judging them.
However, outside of their home, they were not allowed to show how they acted, making them uneasy.
"I have practice this afternoon, so I'll be home late," Kentarō said, glancing at his mother, who was focused on driving. He turned to his twin and asked, "Do you have swim practice today?"
She nodded, "May as well get as much practice as I can before they shut the team down."
The car pulled over to the side of the street and stopped. Their mother turned to her children and said her goodbyes as they both exited the vehicle. She watched them carefully as they made their way to the sidewalk, ensuring they were safely out of harm's way before driving off.
As soon as they walked through the gates, Y/n was bombarded by her swim team, who threw questions at her left and right. They were all panicking over the locks on the pool, which had been changed overnight.
"That asshole! He said I had more time!" she exclaimed, her voice laced with disbelief and disappointment. Sensing her distress, her brother tried to comfort her by placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. Y/n took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. "I'll go talk to the principal again, don't worry. I won't let him get away with this."
As she hurried toward the principal's office, her mind was preoccupied with the situation. She didn't notice the person walking towards her until it was too late, and she collided with their hard chest. She winced at the impact and quickly regained her balance. "Hey, watch where you're going, would you?" she scolded, trying to mask her embarrassment at the clumsy encounter.
"Me? You're the one walking around with your head up your ass." He sneered and pushed past her, but she spun around and grabbed his wrist. "What do you want? I have somewhere I need to be."
Y/n's face contorted with anger as she glared at the man before her. "You treat me like that again," she said, her voice low and menacing, "and I'll take your teeth as a keepsake." She released his hand, which she had been gripping tightly, and began to walk away. The man stood frozen, his cheeks burning with embarrassment and wonder as he watched her leave.
"Don't mind her." Kentarō mumbled as he walked up to his teammate. "She's being put through a lot of shit right now."
"How do you know that? Is she your girlfriend or something?" Iwaizumi asked, watching as Kentarō gagged at the comment.
"Dude that's my sister." He replied in disgust. "Just, make sure you watch what you say around her. She has a short fuse."
As they briskly walked through the school halls, bidding farewell to each other, they suddenly heard a loud, jarring sound coming from the direction of the principal's office. The noise was so loud that it caused both of them to jump in surprise.
As they was ran down the school hallway, they saw that Y/n was being escorted out by both her Science and History teachers. Concerned, he quickened his pace and ran up to her in a panic. "Y/n, what the hell is happening?" he asked urgently.
She slowly lowered her head, her eyes avoiding any contact as she felt the tears rolling down her cheeks, betraying her. It was a moment of overwhelming shame and failure. Her lips quivered as she struggled to voice the words. "I've been suspended," she said, her voice faltering as she shook her head, unable to bear the weight of her mistake.
