The sound of a resounding knock on her door pierces through the deafening silence of the night. Kentarō, with a sense of urgency, cautiously peers through the slightly ajar door and spots Y/n in a fetal position, with her knees tucked tightly to her chest as she hid under her covers. He takes a few tentative steps into the room and calls out to her, "Y/n."

She shuddered at her name; he sounded furious. She shivered, thinking she was in trouble for telling the truth. She held her knees to her chest tighter when he sat on the edge of her bed.

"I'm not angry," he paused, glancing over to see if she had emerged from her cocoon of blankets. "Okay, I am angry, but I'm not angry with you, I promise."

He sighed when he still received no reply, then continued. "I'm sorry I wasn't there when it happened. Maybe I could have stopped it, but I decided to go to my friend's house for the day."

She started to sob as she listened quietly, her chest tightened as she heard him sniffle. "I completely blame myself for what happened. I should have been there."

"Don't blame yourself," she mumbled softly. "I should have told you and Mom sooner." She knew it was her fault for not opening up to them earlier. She realized that keeping secrets only caused more pain in the end.

He wrapped his arms around her protectively and cried into her shoulder, feeling like he failed as her brother. The room filled with sobs coming from the both of them.

Before long, their mother walked into the room, moving slowly towards them and enveloping them both in her arms. She understood that her children were in need of their mother's comfort, and at that very moment, she was there for them both.

"Do you have practice today, Kentarō?" she asked softly. He nodded. "I'll take care of Y/n while you're gone."

"I'm not leaving without Y/n," he mumbled, refusing to let go of her. "I want to be there to protect her when she needs me."

"You can't miss practice, you'll get in trouble," she whispered, he tried to refuse but she cut him off. "I'll go with you."

He nodded and quickly walked off to get ready, leaving Y/n and their mother by themselves. Y/n was quiet, she didn't want to break the silence, but it was also killing her.

"Y/n," Her mother spoke, making her flinch. "Are you alright?"

No, she wasn't alright. She had just opened up that her father, her mother's ex-husband, did things to her when she was a child. How can anyone be alright after that?

"I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but you don't need to be ashamed about it." She explained, putting a hand on her shoulder. "You are not in the wrong here, you were still just a child when all of this happened. I don't blame you for anything that happened."

"I'm sorry." Y/n whispered. "I should have said something while it was happening, but I was too afraid."

"It's understandable to feel afraid in this situation. But I want you to know that we can work through this together. You don't have to face this alone." She paused for a moment, running her fingers through her hair, before continuing, "I will always be here to offer you my support and help you in any way I can."

All she could do was nod, Kentarō walked back through the door in the Aoba Johsai Volleyball team Track suit, his bag slung over his shoulder. "Are you ready?"

Y/n stood up and gave her mother one last hug before walking downstairs to put her shoes on. She pulled the hood of her hoodie over her head and stepped outside, the sky filled with clouds and the wind was cold.

"Don't worry, I'll be here to keep you safe." Kentarō reassured, grabbing her hand as they began walking. "It's a brother's duty after all."

This made her smile, she nodded as they got closer to the school. "Isn't your coach going to be upset if I show up."

"I'll give him two choices." He replied. "Either you stay while I practice, or we both leave."

As they got closer to the gymnasium doors, the sound of volleyballs hitting the court became more pronounced. Kentarō gently pushed the door open and held it for his sister as they walked inside. The sight of the team running drills and practicing was a mesmerizing sight for his sister. Kentarō led her to the coach, who was standing at the sidelines supervising the practice session. The coach welcomed them warmly and allowed his sister to stay and watch the team's practice.

"Oh ho, if it isn't the little lady from the other day." The captain of the volleyball team, Tōru Oikawa, walked up to Y/n and grabbed her hand. "You were so sad, I just wanted to lift your spirits, but you slipped between my fingers."

"That's enough, ShittyKawa," growled Iwaizumi as he slapped Oikawa on the head. Y/n couldn't help but stifle a giggle as she watched the scene unfold. He then guided Oikawa back towards the court and turned to Y/n, asking, "Are you feeling alright today?"

As she looked down at her feet, she spoke softly, "I guess things could be better." She let out a light giggle before continuing, "I just wanted to say sorry for rushing you out yesterday. I know it wasn't very polite of me to cut our conversation short, but I didn't want to burden you with the details of my family drama after all the help you've given my brother."

"No, please don't apologise," he said with a reassuring tone. "I completely understand how you feel." He shook his head slightly and placed his hand on her shoulder in a comforting manner. "It's only natural to have reservations about sharing personal family matters with someone you don't know well. We all have secrets that we wish to keep private.

He took his place beside Y/n, glancing back at the court where they practiced. "Do you play?"

"I used to." Her foot shifted in embarrassment as she answered. "I used to play with Kentarō when he needed to practice. Why do you ask?"

"Just making conversation I guess. I've been practicing nonstop with shittykawa for the past hour, so I think I deserve a break." He shrugged,  grabbing his water bottle and taking a quick drink. "Besides, if you don't have someone here with you, then he'll come and hit on you."

She looked at the one he was pointing at, it was the same guy from before who came up to her. "No matter how much he tries, he won't get anywhere."

"Why's that?" He asked, confused that she wasn't the type to swoon over him like the rest of the girls in school.

She looked at him with a smirk on her face. She shrugged and spoke with a hint of annoyance in her voice, "I can't stand men who are overly aware of their good looks and flaunt it around like it's a trophy."
