Oikawa gently nudged Y/n, hoping to rouse her from her sleep. She stirred but didn't open her eyes. He tried again, shaking her a little more firmly. "Y/n, come on, wake up. We're here," Oikawa repeated, a smile playing on his lips.

Kentarō, who was sitting in the back, almost couldn't contain his laughter at the sight of him struggling to wake her up.

"What's so funny?" Yahaba whispered, leaning in close to him as he watched Oikawa's failed attempts to wake her up.

"Just watch," he instructed, his hand covering his mouth as he tried to keep his laughter in. "There's a reason I got Oikawa to wake her up, I'm not brave enough to do that."

As Oikawa gave her one last shake, Y/n's hand shot up and grabbed his wrist, almost crushing it with her tight grip and making him cry out in pain. Her eyes opened, and once she saw what was going on, she let go of his arm and stood up. "Oikawa! I'm so sorry; I didn't mean to!"

"It's alright." He hissed in pain. "Quite a grip you've got there. I don't even think Iwa-Chan has grabbed me that hard."

"That's what he said," Yahaba whispered to Kentarō, causing them both to laugh.

"Alright, you two, that's enough," Iwaizumi chuckled. "Get off the bus and go warm up. We need to put in our best effort today."

"Yes sir." Kentarō and Yahaba nodded before walking off the bus.

Iwaizumi looked over at Y/n with a smirk. "You too, it's time to go." He chuckled, ushering her off the bus.

"What was that?" Oikawa asked after Y/n was out of range from hearing their conversation, his eyebrow raised as he glanced at Iwaizumi. "That look you just gave her."

"What look? I didn't give her a look," he chuckled awkwardly. Sweat pooled at the bottom of his neck. "You're seeing things, ShittyKawa."

"Bullshit, I saw the face you made when you were looking at her." He scolded, flicking his forehead. "The look of utter infatuation."

"What? You're crazy." He snapped. "Besides, I barely know her. So why would I feel anything at all? I'm not even sure if she even sees me as a friend."

"I think she sees you as a bit of a hero," Oikawa sighed, shaking his head at his friend's ignorance. "You barely knew her and yet you stood between her and her father just to protect her."

"What was I supposed to do? Let him take her?" He growled as the memory of Y/n clinging to his chest in fear played in his mind.

Oikawa shook his head once again as he started walking off the bus. "You're missing the point, Iwa. What you did for her, probably makes you one of the only people outside of her family she trusts with her life."

He stopped at the door and looked back at him, a sad look in his eyes. "I'm just trying to look out for my friend. Open your eyes before someone else takes her from you."

As he turned and walked away, his words reverberated through Iwaizumi's thoughts. The weight of their impact was palpable, like a heavy stone lodged in his chest. He couldn't shake them off as he gazed out of the bus window. It was then that he noticed Y/n outside, engaged in a playful interaction with her brother. Her eyes sparkled with joy, and her laughter carried on the wind. The sight brought a smile to Iwaizumi's face, and finally gave him the push to join the rest of his team.

As he stepped onto the gravel, he heard a chuckle from the doors to the gym. "So you guys finally decided to show up, huh?"

The captain of the Nekoma Volleyball Team, Tetsurō Kuroo, greeted them all with a sly grin. Standing at his side with his nose buried in his Nintendo Switch was his best friend, Kenma Kozume.

"Not everyone is willing to spend hours on the bus just for a practice match against a bunch of city boys," Iwaizume replied, clicking his tongue. "Just be grateful we came."

"Oya? Strong words from the country bumpkins," Kuroo laughed, leaning his elbow on Kenma's shoulder. "Just be ready—we're going to wipe the floor with you guys."

Kuroo's gaze drifted over to the H/c-haired girl standing behind her brother, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What's this? I didn't think you guys had a team manager, especially one so cute."

"Back off, bedhead." Kentarō barked, grabbing his sister protectively. "Keep your grubby mitts to yourself."

"You better watch yourself, Kuroo." Kenma chimed in, a smirk forming on his lips. "I think the dog bites."

"You little twinky son of a," Kentarō was cut off as Y/n slapped her hand over his mouth.

"Please excuse my brother. He doesn't know when to filter his words." She growled, grabbing his ear and giving it a pull. She then looked towards Kenma with a scowl. "You should probably watch your mouth too, cause I can assure you, that he does bite."

She slowly walked up to him, looking him dead in the eyes and grinning. "And he doesn't let go until the thing in his teeth stops moving."

Kenma's face turned white as Kuroo's eyes widened in shock. She turned around and walked back to her brother, slamming her fist against his head lightly and scolding him.

Kenma whispered, "Holy shit!" His heart pounded against his ribcage. "I wasn't really expecting that."

"Yeah, me neither." Kuroo agreed before raising his hands. "Alright, then, enough chit-chat. Let's get everyone inside for warm-ups before we begin."

"Sounds like a plan." Oikawa rolled his eyes, ushering everyone inside, but before Y/n could step through the door, she felt a slim hand grab her wrist.

She turned her head to the blonde boy looking at her apologetically, but she kept her hard exterior. "What, want to insult my family some more?"

"No." He muttered, his grip faltering slightly. "I'm sorry for what I said, and I think it's cool that you stood up to me like that."

She blinked twice, her eyes widening in surprise, and snatched her wrist forcefully from his grip. She then turned around and quickly joined the rest of the team as they entered the building. As she moved away from him, she couldn't shake off the feeling that his intense gaze was still fixed on her.
