Chapter 20: That British Boy

Still, their house is one hell of a sight. Stepping into it was like crossing the line on a precious display in a museum. No matter how many times I see the beauty, I would never get over at how utterly flawless the interior designs are, and the house itself. However, after Brooklyn's words came into my ears like flawless music, I had a major panic attack. I thought about Sandra West, the woman who hated my guts for...I don't exactly know why. Of course, receiving the job for myself was purely as delightful as reveiving a bag of gold. But inside a bag of gold is an evil spirit that wants me dead. Then I remembered my family, and well, maybe I could endure a woman who hated me just for the sake of my family. Tristan wasn't exactly delighted by the news. When I asked him why, he said he was worried about Mrs. West. I told him I was as worried as him. He tried to understand. That's what I also love about Tristan; a supporting friend. But then again, I have to deal with the devil. That British boy.

I followed Old Asian Guy around the house. He offered me a tour and as far as I know this cute old man, he can't take no for an answer. Hence, I watched his small body walk around too speedily for a man like him. For a moment I was scared he would fall flat on the ground any minute now because his energy doesn't match his appearance. We exchange words now and then, but nothing too friendly to consider as a converstaion between friends. Also, I realized that most people in this house didn't like me in a way. Except Harper.

"This is your new room," he suddenly rounded into a hallway and stopped in front of a door.

Confusion drew over my face. "What? But I thought..."

"Yes, we know you don't spend a night here but we still saved a room for you."

"Oh, thank God! I thought you were adopting me."

The man looked at me as if I've grown two heads.

"I mean I don't mind if you do."

He shook his head. He proceeded to unlock the room and push the door open for me to see the insides. Before my eyes is a room that hipster tumblr girls would have killed for just to get to design this kind of room. I have seen enough rooms from tumblr -- messy, girly, but awesomely cozy. The room reserved for me was tidy, small, yet the color palette that was invested for the interiors was enough to drive girls crazy. "Wow." I began looking around. "Are you sure I'm just here for Harper or you need me to live here?"

I felt Old Asian Guy's roll of eyes. Everyone's been doing that -- including me. "If ever, you can put your stuffs here and we could assure privacy," the man informed. I nodded with a smile. "Now, are you ready to meet who you are working for?"

I almost dropped the vase I was weirdly admiring, but thankfully I caught it in time. "What?" I asked dumbly even if I heard him perfectly. God, Beckhams give me the chills.

"The family you are working for," he amended. For a second I thought he was going to add a hasty insult.

"Oh...can I see the de--Brooklyn first?"

...

Later I found myself standing in front of a door with the intials 'BB' written on it in the most gorgeous way. The Asian Guy guide me to Brooklyn's room with ease, because maybe he was thankful he can get rid of me.

I wasn't ready to meet the whole family yet. For one thing, I managed to piss Victoria at one point and embarrass myself. His grandmother hated me for sure. Then there's Brooklyn who kind of hate me, or loath my whole existence, but I'm in need of a moral support and I'm sure as hell I can't get that from anyone here. Brooklyn's the very last on my list, but it's worth a try.

I knocked with a wavering strength. Calm down, you duckhead.

There was a faint shuffle behind the door. "Who is it?"

"The reaper of souls."

Brooklyn found me displaying a grin once he opened the door. He casted a heavy sigh. "What do you want?"

"Ouch," I faked. "Aren't you happy I'm here to babysit your ass?"

"It's Harper, just in case you didn't get it," he said sarcastically, rolling his eyes. See? The eye roll is getting frequent. "Again, what do you want?"

"Alright, first of all. As far as that Asian Guy told me, I'm about to get into some serious babysitting with Harper, but that doesn't exclude you or the rest of her siblings. Basically, I'm a maid slash bodyguard-"

"Just a maid," he interjected with a devilish grin.

"Second, I'm about to meet your whole family and guess what Brooklyn? They like me as much as I like you!" Panic began to get evident in my voice.

The annoyance that was vivid on his face when he saw me was gone, and it was replaced by a devil. He's being himself again. Great. "Right. I have completely forgotten that you might have to repay me back."

"Of course...wait, what?!" I was gaping in shock. As far as I can remember there is only one deal exchanged with another one. "What happened to the deal?"

"What's wrong, Sugar? Can't I get something back for helping you out on so many times?" He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned on the door frame with a pouty look.

"Oh, cut your bullcrap!"

"Come on. It's not like I'm asking for sex."

I think I'm about to shit my pants and have a heart attack. "Don't you ever dare!" I pointed a warning finger at him, but he only smiled wider.

"If I ever want it, I'm bloody sure you're not on the list."

And that's the first time I flipped somebody off. But of course, Brooklyn only replied with a laugh.

Okay, I admit that didn't go well. Since the bastard already taunted me and asked for a payment for his 'help', I was sure I can't ask him anymore. He would surely go around it and bring me some more headache. "You know what? I don't need you. I'm out!" I threw my hands in the midair in an exasperated manner and walked off in the same manner. If he's piling his good deeds, then I'm off of his path for good.

"Wait."

"No. I'm going. Goodbye!"

"Pumpkin, I need another deal."

"Nope!"

"Yes. If you do it, I help you avoid getting the risks of getting kicked out-which is very big, by the way."

That stopped me on my tracks. "What?"

"You heard me," he said, with a more serious tone but not entirely. "How do you think you got the job? I convinced my grandmother to let you in. She did, but I had talked my parents into it. Plus, Mum kind of liked you. Surprising, huh? But Granny does not cool off easily, lass. She can kick you out the moment you do something wrong, even in the tiniest way."

I was out for words. It's not like I didn't see it coming. I knew Sandra couldn't let me in that easy. However, the fact that my job is in constant danger of slipping out of my hands made me want to tear out my hair in frustration. I began to think for a second, and all that I came up with was that I am a very needy person in the weirdest way. With a heavy sigh, I dropped my pride. "Fine. Shoot."

"Great." He looked livelier. "Now, what do you say about meeting my fam', my lovely girlfriend?"

Again. I'm going to shit my pants. What have I gotten into?
