Chapter 50
Beach Trips & Boundaries
Storm wrote and sent out his resignation letter last night before we fell asleep. I don't know if his work or his dad has been trying to contact him, he just says that he got it covered. I'm kind of feeling a little guilty for pushing him to resign, but seeing how light, happy, and free he looks right now?
I think I did the right thing... and also I'm glad I saved my relationship.
"Are you sure you're okay?" I asked him, still can't let go of my worries.
He looked over me before his eyes moved back on the road. "I'm okay, I promise," he said with a smile.
"You sure? Super sure?" I asked again. I mean, I had to be sure.
He was grinning this time. "Yes, baby."
I just stared at him and admired how the short strands of his hair flopped against the wind. The glare of the morning sun didn't bother him because of the aviators he was wearing. The soft, calm look on his face and the way his shoulders were pulled back but still relaxed. His fingers lightly drummed on the steering wheel as he hummed.
Unemployment looks good on him. I'm kidding, mostly.
"So what do you want to do today?" he asked when he noticed me drooling over him. His smile was so infectious, so I returned it with a beaming smile of my own.
I shrugged, then grabbed his right hand with my left. "I just want to spend the day with you. Relax, eat, swim... "
He took my hand close to his and kissed the back of it. "And we will do all those things today, Ash. We will fill this day with memories, so when you leave for work, hindi mo ako masyadong mami-miss."
"Baka mas lalo pa nga kitang ma-miss," pagtatama ko. Pero hindi namang pwede na ako lang, dapat siya rin! "Baka ikaw naman ang mas makaka-miss sa akin dahil wala ka nang pagkakaabalahan."
Natawa siya bago mmuling hinalikan ang kamay ko. "Don't worry, I'll be busy looking for work that I actually like and you'll approve of."
I squeezed his hand. "Basta kung saan ka magiging masaya at fulfilled, happy na din ako."
He only flashed me a grateful smile before changing the topic. "Hindi ka pa ba gutom? We can stop anywhere or go for a drive-thru."
I think you'll like it."
"Mabuti na lang we're going somewhere we can use the kitchen."
Speaking of, we're going to his family's beach house in Batangas. I believe it was Kade who had the key to that place.
It's the family's beach house."
Other than that, I think nakalimutan niyang katrabaho niya ang panganay niyang kapatid. "Well, you just resigned. Hindi ba siya nagalit na iniwan mo sila ni River?"
Umiling siya habang natatawa sa sinabi ko. "Trust me, they understand why I felt. They all wanted to resign, but they just can't go right now. Kade has to think of his little sisters, and River has to work for his kids since the F1 money can't really sustain them."
"And you're a single guy who doesn't have a family," I said, pointing out the obvious.
The car stopped at a red light. Storm looked at me and flashed me one of my favorite smiles of his. "Well, I have you," he said before squeezing my hand three times.
