Mathew comes down the stairs with a tray. It has 4 bowls of soup on it. He places the tray down at the bottom of the stairs and passes around a bowl each to all of the boys and takes the now empty tray off the floor. He smiles in Georgie's direction.
"Wake Ozzie up, will you Georgie?" he tilted his head. Georgie nodded slowly and slowly crawled over to the pink haired boy in the corner. He taps on him lightly. He groans a little but remains asleep. Georgie looked back at Mathew, who was grinning widely. He turned and shook Ozzie gently.
After a few shakes, Ozzie's eyes open slowly. Looking at him, even with his eyes squinted, Georgie could see his sparkling crimson eyes. He looks up and sees Georgie. His eyes widen and he sits up immediately. He turns his head in Georgie's direction. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Mathew, who has a smile on his face. He frowns and sighs, looking at Georgie again. He crawls over to Mathew and Georgie follows behind him. Mathew stands up and makes his way up the stairs.
Georgie looks at Davin, who already woke up the other boy. He already picked up a bowl for himself, and so did the brown-haired kid. Georgie does the same and so does Ozzie. The door to the upstairs is heard slamming. Georgie looks at the other boys, whose faces show no emotion and who aren't even making eye contact with each other.
Georgie was being rather picky with his food and Davin noticed. He leaned over and put a spoon full of soup directly into Georgie's mouth. He flinched but drank it. Davin leaned back and stared at Georgie intently.
"You should eat kid. And get used to soup." he folded his arms. His bowl was still mostly full. The brown-haired boy glared at Georgie. Georgie looked down quickly. They were gathered in a semi-circle around where the tray used to be, and they all ate in silence.
Georgie's eyes took about 5 seconds just to open. It was dark when he opened his eyes. Well, not fully. His eyes were squinted as he looked around the room. The mattress next to his was empty. On the mattress next to the empty one, Ozzie was sleeping in the same position he slept in yesterday. Georgie sat up slowly and turned his head to the left. The brown-haired boy was on his mattress and so was Davin. They both looked asleep.
He whimpered, was he the only one awake? He stood up and walked over the back of the staircase. There was a white line that crossed the end of the staircase and an empty part of the basement. It was the same with the side of the room Davin was on. Right next to his mattress was another white line that connected to the one at the stairs at an angle.
Georgie heard mumbling behind him and whipped his head around quickly. It was probably coming from the brown-haired boy, but he still appeared asleep. Georgie took a quick sigh of relief. He turned back to face in front of him. He looked down at the line and wondered if he should cross it. He held onto the stringer of the stairs and was about to take a step when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
The hand pulled him back violently and he fell on his bottom. He looked up and saw the brown-haired boy, arms folded, staring down at him. Getting a good look at him, Georgie took note of his hazel eyes. He had a few dark spots around his body. He also took note of his outfit. He and the other boys were wearing black tops and white shorts. No shoes, and no socks. Georgie had taken off his shoes at Davin's recommendation, but still had his normal clothes, and socks, on.
He was wearing a dark blue flannel top and blue shorts. The brown-haired boy stared at Georgie in silence for another few moments before speaking.
"Don't cross the line. Literally." he glanced back at the line as an indication. He held his hand out to Georgie, and he took it. Once standing, he looked at the boy, who was now walking back to his mattress. Georgie sits down at the edge of his mattress and faces the boy, who is leaning up against the wall.
"Why not?" he tilted his head and asked. The boy opened his eyes and glared at Georgie.
"Just don't, it's against the rules." the boy grunted quietly. Georgie was even more confused; Davin didn't mention that.
"Which one?" Georgie asked, leaning forward and, not purposefully, pestering the boy. The boy growls at Georgie.
"One of them. But be my guest and cross it, nothing's back there anyway." he mumbles, slouching.
Georgie feels bad, he senses his questions are unwanted. He notices something else about the boy. He has a white collar on. It doesn't have any decoration; it's just tied tightly around his neck. Georgie points to it. The boy looks at it.
"What's that?" Georgie whispers, almost shyly. The boy shows no emotion.
"It's Zaphane." he says in a quick breath. Georgie is visibly blundered. The boy sees and chuckles. Georgie huffs. "It stops me from using my ability." he whispers with a small sad smile. Georgie understands a little.
"What's your ability?" he asks. The boy stays silent, and Georgie figures he probably won't respond. "Well, what's your name?" he hopes to get an answer.
"Charlie." he turns his head to Georgie. Georgie smiles, though it's not returned. He lies back down, back to Charlie, and closes his eyes, drifting to sleep.
He wakes up to see Ozzie on the mattress next to him, awake. He gets up slowly, eyes blurry, stretching. Once his vision is fixed, he sees Mathew at the bottom of the staircase. His body tenses up immediately. Mathew smiles and waves to him.
"You look so cute stretching, Georgie." he giggled. He made a mental note never to stretch again. He stayed silent, staring in a bit of shock and fear at his presence, unblinking. Mathew sighs. He stands up with a tray in his hand. Georgie notices that on the floor in front of his mattress is a foil wrap, most likely containing food.
"Davin," Mathew started and Davin stared "you're in change, I'm going out." Davin nodded. Georgie broke out of his trance at those words and stared cluelessly at Davin. Mathew grinned and strode up the steps, two at a time.
What was probably a few minutes later, Georgie heard a door close, and an engine rev a shortly after. He turned to Davin, who was eating an egg sandwich. He squinted his eyes and went over to him.
"Aren't we going to try escaping?"
