winter! au

[Your POV]

"With temperatures dropping as low as negative five Fahrenheit, or negative twenty degrees Celsius this evening, we encourage all citizens to stock up on all of the supplies they might need before nine pm tonight. Don't forget to salt your driveways! Though we doubt any of you guys will want to be out driving in this blizzard tomorrow morning."

I heard the weatherman on the TV speak as I prepared a pot of chili for dinner.

"Jesus..."
I heard Corpse say, the front door closing just as quickly as it had opened.

"How cold is it out there?"
I chuckled.
"Worse than I thought. We have to go back out soon, too. We need to stock up on some stuff before the snow starts."
Corpse said.

I groaned. If there was one thing I didn't want to do, it was go out in that freezing cold weather. But, I couldn't complain. Corpse had left the house twice today already, and going on a quick grocery trip with him was one thing I didn't mind doing.

"Well... we might as well go now. The food has to simmer and I might as well get my coat and stuff on while I'm feeling up to it."
I sighed.

I pulled on my coat and a pair of Uggs, eager to just hurry up and get to the car.

Corpse followed behind me as we got into the car and immediately turned the heat on full blast, along with the seat warmers.

"Brr."
I said with a giggle.

"Damn right."
Corpse replied, turning over the engine. It was going to be a long week if this was how cold it was going to stay.

We arrived at the nearest grocery store, and Corpse picked me up as we walked inside, making me giggle.

"What are you doing?! Put me down!"
I giggled. He sat me in the shopping cart and began pushing me down the aisles. I grabbed everything I thought we might need off of the shelves. Only the essentials, though. At least, what I considered essentials.

"Babe, we don't need three boxes of Pop-Tarts."
Corpse sighed, taking two of the boxes out and placing them back on the shelf.
"But C! What if we run out?!"
I pouted.
"No. Only what we need. Okay?"

I pouted and crossed my arms.
"Hmph."
 I mumbled.

"You're cute, but not cute enough."
He chuckled.
"Tell you what, if you help me shop properly, and if you're good, you can get one treat of your choice before we leave. Deal?"
My eyes went wide at his proposition.
"Even ice cream?!"

"Y/N, why the hell would you want ice cream when it's five degree-"
He cut himself off when he saw the big, pleading puppy dog eyes I was giving him.
"Fine."
He sighed.

"Yay!"

I grabbed all of the things we really needed from the shelves as he pushed me along down the aisles.
Jugs of water, batteries, canned foods, some snacks, and toiletries were all put into the cart.

Corpse grabbed a big, tin bottle of propane.

"What do we need that for?"
I asked.
"Well, the power might go out. And if the power goes out when it's this cold we're gonna need a way to both cook and stay warm, so I got us a propane-gas hot plate and space heater."
He explained.
My anxiety started to skyrocket as I processed his words. Power outages? I hadn't really thought this far ahead.
