I found myself, hiding under the bed. It was a cold, dark and rainy night, trees started making noises and the strong wind was blowing the curtains in my room as I forgotten to shut the windows.
I was scared, hoping he would not find me as the continuous gun shots were fired outside my room. "I beg you for mercy, please!", my brother yelled before the last shot silenced him up. I was holding back tears when I heard footsteps entering my room.
---
I woke up in cold sweat to find myself on a comfy bed and the surrounding was country style including the windows. I really did have a bad dream last night and I could feel as if I was in a rainy Exorcist.
However, this was different. The last thing I clearly remembered was watching a freak show in a dark warehouse and here I am, enjoying some countryside lifestyle? Something was definitely odd. I dragged myself down the stairs, hoping to find an answer. I got a little pocket knife in my hands, in case I am in enemy's territory.
Fortunately, I was not going to stabbed anyone to death when I noticed an old woman washing up dishes. She turned around and gave me a pleasant smile. "Darling, you're finally awake for lunch. Do help yourself to milk and cheese ramen", she said. "People love ramen these days, don't they?"
---
"Mrs. Holden, the ramen is delicious!", I exclaimed having to tried something new, specially when it is the combination of milk and cheese (hmm yummy). The old woman addressed herself as Mrs. Holden. She lived in the cottage alone since her husband passed away four years ago. "Can you even tell I'm almost in my 70s?", said Mrs. Holden. "It's always good to exercise, I have been doing so for the past decades", she gave a wink (wow).
I laughed, I can't believe someone like Mrs. Holden is enthusiastic about exercising at such age. Amazing, isn't it? Speaking of ramen and exercising, I was questioning myself how I ended up in this cottage and decided to ask Mrs. Holden's encounter of me.
"Oh my, I found you looking dead right outside my house", she said. "You were very cute indeed, you kept blabbering nonsensical things which aren't audible". I was not surprised about the encounter, Collin might have asked his assistants to dumped me right outside Mrs. Holden's cottage or probably I got out free since I blabbered nonsense. I thanked Mrs. Holden and continued eating the tasty ramen.
---
Right after lunch, Mrs. Holden was kind enough to give me a tour around her cottage. To be honest, this cottage was considered big for one person, probably suitable for family of seven. I wished my house was similar to this, so rustic and beautiful.
Mrs. Holden was showing me the study room when something caught me by surprise. I found a framed photo of a toddler, looking smiley and very vintage. Something tells me this toddler, the eyes... I must have seen them somewhere.
"Mrs. Holden, can you tell me about the portrait?", I asked. Mrs. Holden looked up and smiled as she replied, "Darling, that portrait you are looking at is my son." A son, again I further asked about him and she continued talking.
"My son is always busy, been a long time since he came to visit. He is doing business, venturing local and aboard. You will loved him if you know him", Mrs. Holden said, looking a little sad though.
"What is his name?"
"Charles Holden. Call him Charlie will do."
