Was the anger because she was almost killed?"My phobia would have killed me first, Gabriel. And more than anybody else you should know I am not that easy to kill. At nagpapasalamat din ako sa iyo."
"I wasn't referring to those men in the woods, Cameron! You deliberately missed to inform me about it!"
"You're hurting me."
"I'm sorry," he said remorsefully. Tumayo ito. Then he paced the wooden floor.
"We weren't strolling in the park, Gabriel."
"Damn it. Those men intended to kill you!"
She rolled her eyes. "As if I didn't know..." She reached for her cup of coffee and sipped. Then she said, "Narinig kong pinag-usapan nila ang ginawang pagtulak sa akin sa deck."
"Why, for heaven's sake, you traveled alone?"
"I always travel alone, Gabriel. She took another sip of her coffee. Then, This Abel... siya ang katiwala sa villa nina Benedict at Julianne, 'di ba? Paano kayong nagkita?"
"You are at the villa, in one of the guest rooms. Dito kita dinala kagabi."
"Oh." She looked around her with confused eyes before turning her gaze back to him. "You didn't kill them, did you?"
"With my arms full of you?"
Hindi niya mapigilan ang mapangiti. His statement was poetic and kinda romantic, only if it wasn't uttered in sarcasm.
"I don't think my presence would have deterred you from killing those men if you really had wanted to."
"Yeah, you're right. But I did not kill them.
"Oh."
"He blamed himself. Hindi siya dapat nagtungo sa Batangas."
"It was my fault," agad niyang sabi. "Hindi ako nagpaabiso kaagad. And I am glad he was at the ferryboat. He had cushioned my fall. We could have been killed. Those men were desperate."
His eyes darkened in anger. He took a deep calming breath and walked toward her. "You have bruises in your back. You should have told me last night. Sana'y hindi kita hinayaang maglakad."
A faint smile curved her lips. "You couldn't have possibly carried me while we trekked uphill."
And you are twice as much heavier because you were asleep."
And I don't think he would want to strip you of your wet clothes.
