Part 18~Theories

"Right, you got to make this fast because you have a train to catch." Nagisa sat in front of Koko and Esumi as the trio ate their breakfast.

Koko was surrounded by files, passing one to Nagisa. "Well, I've been doing a lot of research, and I've got a theory."

"I sure hope so 'cause it's the one thing you've been doing the last week."

"We know that the M projects have differences in their form of kinesis. Esumi's pyrokinesis and Keiji's telekinesis. And we know you and Koro-sensei have differences, but this is where things get weird. Each experiment has a basic set of skills unique to that experiment, and about a third has an additional skill. But it wasn't still evenly."

"Koko, use your words. What are you talking about?" Esumi placed a hand on Koko's shoulder as she grinned.

"Almost every M specimen had an additional skill. Then, the F kids, K kids, T kids and lastly, there have been no reported incidences of an A specimen gaining a different skill. So, I started looking into why this could be different, and I think it has to do with the use factor."

Nagisa and Esumi gave Koko a confused look.

"You see, the M kids, aka the mothers, started the clans. Before that, they didn't have these additional abilities. Their constant use of their abilities increased their power."

"The use factor," Esumi nodded as she sighed. "You need better names for things."

"That's not the point. Because the M-kids started reaching out, the other kids started developing their skills, too, meaning they also gained the skills. It explains why there was a dramatic increase in these incidences after the clans were formed." Koko beamed, seeming proud of herself.

"I'm not sure if that's right." Nagisa barely got the words out when Koko deflated. "If it was just about using their power, why wouldn't the A-kids also have this?"

"I don't know." Koko sighed, hitting her head against the table. "It's the only bit I couldn't make sense of."

Nagisa frowned, tapping his chin. "Back when I was with the Extermination Clan, Ouji and I were the only ones without unique skills. We always assumed it was because we were T specimens, but if that's not the reason, maybe something else was going on."

"Yeah, but it's not like we can ask many people. You, Esumi and Keiji are the only people around with special skills unless we count the octopus, but I doubt you want me to talk to him."

"No, that's not a good idea."

Esumi hummed. "Nagisa, what about when you were a lost boy? Don't suppose you knew anyone from that time with special powers?"

Nagisa flinched, lowering his head. "Only one."

"The leader of Guard Clan?"

Nagisa nodded, leaning against his hand. "So, what links you, Keiji, me and Asaji."

Koko frowned. "Being gay?"

Nagisa slapped her. "I'm going to get Keiji up. If we can't think of something before we're back, we're going back to the drawing board."

"Oh, one last thing." Esumi grinned, holding up her phone. "I've got confirmation. Clan Instinct lives."

Nagisa groaned. "Great. The No impulse control clan. If they attack me, I'm sacrificing them to Athena for knowledge. Maybe it'll get Keiji's grades up."

The class gathered on the platform, listening to the bustle of the students. All the students above them got to go to the first class. Typical.
