»What?«
I asked shocked.
It's been over 10 minutes since Mr. Mathers called me.
»I want you to be my lawyer.«
He repeated in a serious tone.
»Mr. Martin is your lawyer! Your trial is starting in less than a month!«
I stated, still with a shocked undertone, and went to my refrigerator to grab a water to calm down after what I just heard.
»I have no doubt that this is enough time for you to also dig your head into the case.«
My eyes got big and I almost spit out my water.
»Mr. Mathers, I appreciate your trust in me but I can't. First of all, I'm not a lawyer on the american floor, we already are too personal and my boss would never allow that. Trust me when I say, one lawyer is enough and having Mr. Martin by your side is a privilege.«
He sighed.
»I can talk to your boss.«
was all he said.
I moved to my couch and layed down after putting the call on speaker.
»Why do you want me to be your lawyer so badly?«
I asked and waited for his answer.
»I trust you in some type of way, and seems like you still need to prove yourself in front of you boss.«

I furrowed my eyebrows and didn't reply for a couple of seconds.
»Mr. Mathers, thanks for your concern, I say this with the highest respect I have for you,«
I made a small pause,
»that is none of your business.«
I heard a sigh from the other end of the phone.
»I'm sorry, I-«
»It's alright, good night Mr. Mathers!«
I interrupted him.
»Good night, and please think about it.«
was all he answered and hung up.

I didn't know what to think about our conversation and put my shoes back in front of my door. I was flattered that Mr. Mathers asked me to be his lawyer, I really was, but I never would have thought that he had the impression I was capable of digging myself into his case. An important case. The most important case for my company since a long time.

I was staring at my ceiling when I saw my phone light up in the corner of my eye.
I grabbed it again and saw the unsaved number.
Him.
"I'm sorry again, I didn't mean to offend you."
I looked at his message for a few seconds and began to type,
"It's all good!"
I hit send and threw my phone next to me on the couch.

I didn't need to think about it. Mr. Lenz would never let me be part of this case even if I would work on the american floor and if I'm being honest with myself, I wouldn't want to be the lawyer of Mr. Mathers. It's too much of a responsibility and I never had an important case in this company. My cases were all interesting but no one cared if I lost the trials. Though I won most of them.

I looked at the clock. It was almost 10PM. I couldn't go to my parents house anymore, it was too late. Sometimes I wish I would still live with my parents. It's a shame people expected you to already live alone in your mid 20's. It's not a shame to have a healthy relationship with your family and enjoy spending time with them. If I would still live at home right now, I would've probably puzzled with my sister or played chess with my brother and hear my parents fall asleep in front of the TV with a glass of wine. Yes, yes we are the perfect family next door.

I was sitting at my desk and had Chloé in front of me. I had to plan her bachelorette party as her maid of honor and was really happy that I had some positive working to do. Getting money for planning my private life, I love it.
»So I know you said you wanted to stay in Michigan for your bachelorette because your wedding will already take place in a different state, but hear me out-«
She didn't let me finish.
»V, I love you and you're gonna be the best maid of honor but I have a budget for this trip!«

Chloé and Lucas were big fans of the movie "The Notebook" and wanted their wedding to take place in Charleston, South Carolina. At first they planned a casual wedding in Michigan but after both their parents agreed to help them paying parts of the wedding, they planned their dream wedding in South Carolina. Lucas' family still didn't really get along Chloé but also agreed to pay for the wedding since it was also Lucas' dream.
I hoped Chloé and Lucas' family work out their differences before the wedding, it won't be laid-back at all if there would be constant tension between the bride and the groom's family. I didn't even know why they dislike Chloé in the first place. How could anyone dislike her?
