The next day, I was sitting in Chloé's office and basically watched her doing her work while I should be doing my work. Almost a tongue twister.
"I can't believe you agreed to this."
Chloé said and rummaged through her thousand files on the table.
See, this is why I'm trying to avoid working.
Nobody wants to spend their day doing that. I was born to relax and forced to work.My parents persuaded me into coming to their barbecue party today. Each year on June 30th, my parents invited all of our n wdzseighbors for a get together and I turned down at first because I knew Noah, the boy next door who my Mom is trying to pair me up with, is going to be there. But they insisted on it and I loved a little family time here and there every week, that's the only reason why I agreed to come in the end.
"I know that my neighbor is gonna be there and I'll try my best to avoid any conversation with him."
I stated.
"But why don't you give him a chance?"
Chloé asked without looking up.
"You said he's pushing 30, seems like a nice guy and got divorced last year. There's nothing wrong with going on one date with him."
I shrugged my shoulders and she looked at me after letting herself fall back into her seat.
"Think about it!"
"Maybe, but I'm too stubborn. My Mom has been trying to pair me up with him since months, I don't really wanna give her what she wants."
I rambled.
Wow, that sounded rough.
"Really V? You're not saying yes because your Mom would have a triumph?"
Chloé glanced at me for a few seconds and back on her pile of paper.
I let out a sigh and replied,
"I'll think about it!"
to get this conversation over with. After I went back to my office and sat in front of my laptop, I thought about what Chloé said to me. You're not saying yes because your mom would have a triumph?
That wasn't exactly the case. I can't lie, it was part of the reason, cause she would never shut up about it.Noah was courteous, handsome, kind, had sweet dimples and a nice smile but he didn't make me nervous. He didn't make me feel what David made me feel the first time I saw him.
I didn't know what to say the first time I talked to David. I was jumpy, I stuttered and laughed the whole time due to my nervousness. Noah didn't have that effect on me, that's how I knew he wasn't the one.
I wanted that feeling back. I didn't need to feel the nervousness again. I just wanted to feel the chemistry and feel like a teenager again that is lost for words. In my opinion, you know exactly when someone is the one. There is this feeling, and there was this feeling with David.
During my lunch break, I sat in the cafeteria with Alex and Eric. They were talking about their favorite rugby teams and I tried to listen, but rugby isn't amongst my favorite sports. Eric tried to explain the rules to me at least a hundred times but I never got it and he kinda gave up on me in terms of rugby.
"Anyways, I gotta get going. My client should be standing in front of my office any minute."
Alex said and got up.
"And you're trying to tell me I'm a bad lawyer?"
I asked with a smile.
"You really wanna play that game Pedroni?"
He replied with a mischievous grin.
I laughed and shook my head.
"Thought so."
He answered and patted my head for a few seconds."
"See you tomorrow!"
Alex said and knocked on the table.Eric and I were still sitting at the table and I sensed something was a little bit off.
Some time had passed now and he still didn't say a single word.
"What's wrong?"
I asked, after minutes of contemplating.
"The trial starts in a few weeks."
was all he answered and glanced at me for some seconds.
"But you're prepared, I know that! You'll do good."
I tried to encourage him and patted his shoulder.
"I am but I'm still nervous. I'm gonna meet him tomorrow for the last time before the trial starts."
"You can always ask him to have another meeting if you're more comfortable with that!"
I stated and ate from my hamburger in front of me.
"Maybe I will. I don't know, what are you doing today?"
He wanted to change the subject. I can understand that, so I didn't ask any further. It was an uncommon feeling to know that he had secrets. He was like a brother to me, I always told him what's on my mind and so did he.
