I called Noah when I got home and we agreed to go out, casually. I told him I had a busy week but I don't think he believed my lie, which makes sense, I'm bad at lying.
»I'm happy you called Noah, and what about Eric's client?«
Chloé asked and we both gazed at the Detroit river and ate from our pizza.
»What do you mean?«
»I don't know, that man has to be intrigued by you if he goes all the way to Mr. Lenz to talk to you.«
If only she knew who that client is.
»Well it wasn't of private matter why he wanted to talk to me!«
I said and took a slice from my pizza.
»So.. he came to you to talk about what? His case you're not even taking care of?«
Chloé asked.
I glanced at her for a second and sighed.
»He asked me some questions about Eric because I know him really well and he wanted to have my opinion.«
She chuckled and drank from her water.
»Is he cute?«
was all she asked like it's the most normal question about a client and ate from her pizza.

I didn't answer for a couple of seconds and she looked at me with an expectant face.
I started to think about Mr. Mathers and pictured him in my head for the first time.
Dimples, little freckles here and there, ocean blue eyes, tattoos, blonde bleached hair.
Yes, yes he is. Absolutely.
»Kind of.«
I answered and smiled shortly after.
»Kind of?«
Chloé laughed and furrowed her eyebrows.
»What does that mean?«
She added.
I shrugged my shoulders.
»That he is kind of cute, I guess. He's a client, I never analyzed his looks!«
I heard Chloé groan heavily next to me.
»He's not your client V, for gods sake!«
She ate from her pizza and began added,
»You said he's kind of cute so that means you thought about him at least once.«
I rolled my eyes and opened my water.
»Yes, he's subjectively, maybe, a little bit cute. Can we stop talking about him? It's kind of weird and even if I would want to go out with him, he wouldn't care about me. He can have anyone.«

I glanced at Chloé and she looked at me with big eyes.
»He can have anyone? Come on Valeria he's just a man, yeah seems like he has a lot money but he's not anyone important.«
Oh, if only she knew.
»Whatever, let's change the topic please!«
I begged and heard her sigh.
»Did you ask Lucas about the trip?«
»He wasn't amused when I told him it would be more expensive than his trip, but I said I have to deal with his family for the rest of my life and he could also spend some more money on his trip so,«
she made a small pause.
»he said yes!«
I clapped triumphantly in my hands and hugged her.
»I'm so happy!«
»But only $200 more! As you promised.«
She replied after she ended the hug.
»Yes! The only expensive parts are gonna be the flights and the hotel. We're gonna go low budget on everything else!«
I said and smiled.
»I can't wait to plan this, I'm gonna start tomorrow.«
Chloé chuckled.
»Oh god, I just helped you find a new activity you're gonna do instead of working.«
I lifted my index finger and pointed at her with a laugh.
»You sure did!«

We both looked at the river and for a split second, none of us said anything.
I layed down on our blanket and looked at the clouds.
Why can't life always be like this?
I heard my phone buzz next to me and immediately grabbed it.
»What do you think of chinese? or is that not your thing?«, Noah asked.
I flashed a smile and answered: »Sounds good!«
We agreed to go on a date this friday, and I can't lie, I'm looking forward to it. I'm terrified, but I'm looking forward to it.
»Was that Noah?«
Chloé asked and I nodded.
»He already got you smiling like that.«
She chuckled and added,
»But I'm kinda sad, I would've liked to see you being thorn between the neighbor next door and your friends client! Just like the movies.«
I glanced at her for some seconds and laughed wholeheartedly.
»You're watching too many movies!«
She layed down next to me and we stopped laughing after a while.
»Okay but let me be serious for once, why not go out with Eric's client? You said he's cute and you're starting to go on dates again so why not use all your options?«
I turned my head to her and furrowed my eyebrows.
»First of all, I won't ask him to go on a date with me. I'm the woman. And second of all, this is not even up from discussion, he can have any woman he wants and that won't be me. We're sadly not in a movie.«
I answered and she replied,
»Sadly, huh?«
I laughed and slapped my hand on my forehead.
»Chloé, I swear you're getting on my nerves. He won't ask me to go out with him so this conversation is just useless.«
»Never say never.«
Chloé said and I glanced at her with a serious face.
»Fine.«
She sighed.
»You're self sabotaging your love life, you know that?«
I looked at the clouds again.
»It's not self sabotaging! Let's spin the wheel: If he would, hypothetically, ask me out, I would maybe think about it and agree. But he won't, I don't need to think about it further and the fact that he probably didn't even think about me once and we're having our, what? Second or third conversation about him? It's ridiculous.«
