chapter two !
└─── °∘❉∘° ───┘
The two tributes sat on the train, one on each side. Silence filled the small area, no one wanting to speak up.
Juniper lifted her legs to her chest and rest her head on her bear knee caps.
Rain poured down and droplets fell down the window, at least she had something to focus on during this mess.
June was still trying to comprehend what happened. How she volunteered herself to fight in the hunger games. Gave herself up to get herself killed.
She couldn't fight. Well she could but she couldn't kill other people. These poor innocent people who didn't choose to risk their lives.
"Are you experienced in this type of things?" Jessup questioned Juniper's emphasis on the rain. "Sorry?" At last, she answered. "
Are you good at fighting, I asked." Jessup repeated his question once more for the girl.
"Oh, I don't think so." June gave a shoulder shrug. Abruptly, the train car arrived, its doors opened, revealing the two people inside.
After getting off, Jessup turned to assist Juniper in getting off the train. June brushed off the debris from her clothing and glanced around, her gaze abruptly falling on a red-suited boy.
He held out a white rose for June, his hair was wavy and light. He turned to face her after noticing her.
"Greetings from the Capitol." As he talked, he gave her the food to accept for her and Jessup. As June received the rose from his hand, she thought to herself, what a kind gesture.
Coriolanus studied her for a moment. She had good looks. Beautiful indeed. He knew she was small even though she was wearing boots with heels. He still hung large above her.
She was not going to make it through this. Not without his assistance, anyhow. June said to the charming man, "You look like you shouldn't be here," with a raised eyebrow.
With her head tilted upward, Juniper observed him closely. "Well, I shouldn't, but I am your mentor," he shook his head in response.
"You have to be Coriolanus Snow then." Glancing right back at Jessup, who had been staring at him, she said.
She turned to face Coriolanus again. "What is the role of my mentor? In addition to offering me roses." Juniper smirks and brings up the flower to smell.
"I'll try my hardest to look after you," he said, straightening his suit. June merely gazed at him, and he responded in kind.
She was genuinely taken aback. He was treating her so tenderly and sweetly. Back at her home — not a single person nor boy would he ever caught doing this act.
Already, she found herself slipping in admiration of him. Despite their recent meeting, she had faith in him.
Perhaps there was still hope.
Coriolanus's eyes followed Juniper as she examined him, twirling the roses between her fingers.
She sat down and Coriolanus was soon to follow. She dusted the dirt off of the skirt of her dress.
Coriolanus watched as Juniper chewed her food and he noticed her expression change.
It was as if she was observing him intently. She was staring directly at him.
Coriolanus noticed Juniper's eyes and she was studying him up and down. He could see her taking in his appearance.
Her head turned to the gate and she continued eating. She was so beautiful.
"You see that girl over there." Juniper gestured to the young girl behind her, Coriolanus nods in acknowledgment.
"She doesn't deserve to be here." She added finishing up with her food. And it was true. No one deserved to be here — especially the children.
"Is she a tribute?" Coriolanus asked, glancing over his shoulder to see who Juniper was talking about. He knew that June must be talking about a boy or a girl that was her age.
"Yes, she is. A very young girl." Juniper answered, and she turned to look out the window once more, and Coriolanus soon turned to face her.
She was so different than the other tributes that he knew about. June was different than most of the people that he knew.
"Why don't you see if you can talk with her." Coriolanus suggested. Without speaking Juniper shook her head no.
Coriolanus laughed, "Your confidence was quick to disappear." He joked and June gives him a stare.
"I just don't feel like talking to the other players." She shrugs wiping her face off.
"Fair enough." Coriolanus speaks and the two share a look.
— alisha has something to say !
these two chapters have been hella boring but it will get interesting once the games begin.
