Demi

"Demi, pick up the phone, I'm starting to worry."

"Demi, baby, seriously, call me. Please."

"I'm seriously freaking the fuck out now. Max and Sugar aren't answering either."

"Demi, I can't sleep if I don't know that you're ok so just please at least text me."

"Demi, you're gonna make me come back home. Call or text me in ten minutes please."

"Ok, it's been more this ten minutes, I'm on my way home."

I allowed all her calls go to voicemail but eagerly played each message as soon I was confident she was done recording. It was already a little past 11 at night and Jessica absolutely hated traveling at night so I was pretty confident she was bluffing. That was the main reason I was shocked when I heard someone pull into our driveway and open our front door.

"Demi?"

I heard the voice call as the source ascending the stairs. I instantly recognized that it was Lea. She was inside of the bedroom in no time.

"Well, at least you're alive."

She sighed and pulled out her cellphone, initiating a call.

"Don't call her..."

I ordered and she slowly pulled the phone from her ear even though I knew that as soon as she was out of my view, she would do the exact opposite.

"...why are you here?"

"Because I wanna have a steaming affair with you while my best friend is out of town."

Her sarcastic response only made my frown more pronounced as I redirected my attention to whatever was going on on the television screen.

"Well, you're out of luck."

Lea hissed her teeth and stormed over to the television set, shutting it off. I wonder who she learnt that from?

"Why aren't you answering your phone? She's worried sick. She sent me over here."

"Yeah, I gathered that from all the whiney voicemails but thanks for the reminder."

I got up and went downstairs to grab a bottle of water from the fridge. Lea simply followed me like a lost puppy.

"You can go home now."

I added as she just stood in the kitchen, staring at me and fiddling with her phone.

"You're such a selfish piece of shit. Jessica has given you everything she's got and this is how you treat her? You better man the fuck up before you lose her."

I remained indifferent to her input. I honestly did not care. She said she wanted space then when I give her space she blows my phone up.

"In case you forgot, the door's that way."

I tilted my head towards the door and Lea continued to stare silently at me before shaking her head and leaving. She slammed the door on her way out causing several of the pictures in the living room to fall off balance.

I dragged myself into the living room and began rearranging the photos when I realized that one had fell to the ground. It didn't take long to see that the glass had been shattered, there were splinters all around it. It was one of my favorite pictures of us. We were nineteen and we had taken some pictures at the carnival. Even though I was still in the closet and scared shitless, she somehow managed to get me to kiss her in front of the ferris wheel. Things have never been simple for us but she always made me feel safe, like it all didn't matter.
