"Ugh, I can't study anymore!" Dani exclaimed as she pushed her books aside, then ran and jumped onto her bed next to me.

"Y/N? Aren't you tired?" Danielle asked, poking my cheek playfully.

"Yeah, I am, but I need to get this done," I replied, trying to focus on the screen as she continued typing away.

"It's not due for another week," she said, closing my laptop and setting it onto the nightstand behind me.

"Lay down, let's talk," she insisted, rolling onto her side to face me. I mirrored her movement, resting my head on my hand.

"How have you been?" she asked, her eyes bright with curiosity.

"Good, I guess," I replied, feeling a little shy under her gaze.

"I have something to tell you." Dani giggled, covering her mouth with her hand.

"What is it?" I leaned in closer, intrigued.

"Remember that guy from Class 2 that I told you about?" she asked, her excitement bubbling over.

"Yes!" I replied, my heart racing with anticipation.

"He asked me out!!" she squealed, her eyes sparkling with joy.

I shot up from her bed in disbelief. "Are you serious?" I couldn't hide the jealousy creeping into my voice. I didn't want Dani to go on a date with anyone.

"Yes!!" she popped up after me, beaming.

"W-w-what did you say?" I asked, my voice slightly panicked.

"I said yes, of course," she replied, rolling her eyes as if it were the most obvious answer in the world.

"Oh..." I nodded slowly, feeling a twinge of disappointment wash over me.

"Why do you look so down? Your best friend just got her first date!" she exclaimed, shaking my shoulders playfully.

Dani suddenly hopped off her bed and started to dance around the room, her laughter ringing through the air.

"Wait!" I called out, but she was too caught up in her excitement to hear me.

She stopped mid-dance, catching my attention again. "I don't even have an outfit!" she exclaimed, rushing to her closet to rummage through her clothes.

"Don't worry, you look good in everything," I complimented, still feeling a bit disappointed. How could I not? She looked stunning, and of course, her date would be mesmerized by her.

I guess it's just the Danielle effect. And God, it has me in a fucking chokehold.

"Aw, you're too sweet!" she said, walking back over to her bed and sitting next to me again. "You really think I look good in anything?" Dani asked, a hint of disbelief in her voice.

"Of course you're fucking stunning, Dani..." I replied, fidgeting with my fingers in my lap. I couldn't believe I was actually saying this to her.

"OMG, thanks!!" she squealed, squeezing me in a tight hug. "You're my best friend!"

Damn, those words hurt my soul—"best friend." I was stuck in the friend zone. I had been for two long years now. I didn't know how much longer I could hold on without saying something, without risking everything for the chance that maybe she felt the same way.

As she pulled back from the hug, her eyes sparkled with excitement again. "You have to help me pick out the perfect outfit!" she said, clapping her hands together.

"Uh, sure," I stammered, my mind racing. "But... what if you want to wear something that's a bit more... flirty?"

Dani raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Flirty? You mean like... a dress?"

"Yeah, or a cute skirt," I said, my heart racing at the thought. "Something that will make him fall even harder for you."

"Hmm, I do have this cute little black dress..." she mused, tapping her chin thoughtfully.

"Definitely wear that!" I encouraged, trying to hide the pang of jealousy.

"Okay, okay, but you have to help me pick the right shoes to go with it!" she insisted, her excitement contagious.

"Sure thing!" I forced a smile, but inside, a storm of emotions raged. I wanted to be the one making her smile like that, the one she thought about when getting ready for a date. But here I was, helping her prepare for someone else.

As we rummaged through her closet together, a small part of me wondered if I'd ever find the courage to tell her how I really felt. But for now, I would be her best friend, supporting her, even if it hurt a little. I just hoped that one day, I could be more than that.

Suddenly, Dani paused, her face becoming serious. "Y/N, can I ask you something kind of weird?"

"Sure, what's up?" I said, raising an eyebrow.

"Well..." she hesitated, biting her lip. "I've never been kissed before, and I want to practice. You know, just in case things go well on the date."

My heart skipped a beat. "Wait, you want me to practice kissing with you?" I asked, my voice a mix of surprise and excitement.

"Yeah! I mean, I don't want to look like a complete fool if it happens," she admitted, her cheeks flushing. "I trust you, and who better to practice with than my best friend?"

"I... uh..." I stammered, my mind racing. "Of course, I'll help you. But I mean, how do you want to do this?"

"Just like, you know, a quick peck. Nothing serious!" she clarified, waving her hand dismissively but still blushing.

"Okay, I can do that," I said, trying to sound casual, but my heart was pounding. "Just a peck."

Dani nodded, her nervous energy palpable. "On three?"

"Okay. One... two... three!"

Before I could second-guess myself, I leaned in. Our lips brushed together softly, a light and innocent touch that sent a jolt of electricity through me. It was brief, but in that moment, it felt like more than just practice.

"Wow," she said, pulling back, her eyes wide with surprise. "That was... nice!"

"Yeah, it was," I replied, trying to catch my breath, my cheeks warming up.

"Maybe we should try again?" she suggested, her voice a mix of eagerness and shyness.

"Okay, but just one more time," I agreed, feeling both nervous and thrilled at the same time.

This time, as we leaned in, I couldn't help but feel the weight of my feelings for her. Our lips met again, this time lingering a moment longer, and I could feel her warmth against me.

When we finally pulled back, we were both breathless, the reality of what had just happened hanging in the air between us.

"Okay, so now you won't be a fool when he kisses you!" I said, trying to break the tension with a laugh, but deep down, I knew this practice had awakened something inside me.

"Yeah, thanks, Y/N," she said, a shy smile spreading across her face. "You're the best."

As she turned to rummage through her closet again, I couldn't help but wonder if this practice had changed things between us. All I knew was that I would cherish that moment for a long time.
