"Grian?"
Grian looks up at Scott from the hole he'd managed to fall into somehow.
"Hello, Scott. Could you help me out here?" calls Grian from below. Scott just stares at Grian with bewildered eyes, his face paling. However Grian doesn't notice as he is too focused looking around at the hole.
"How did you—" Grian cuts in.
"Fall in? Not sure, I don't remember it."
"No I mean: How did you get here?"
"Get where?"
Scott sighs, holding his hand out over the hole and flicking his wrist. The ground starts to shake, then ice pushes upwards and lifts Grian up. He lets out a shout of surprise as the ice lifts him to the surface and Scott pulls him from it.
"How did you do that?"
"It doesn't matter." Scott puts his hands firmly on Grian's shoulders as if he is preparing to shake him. "Grian, you need to tell me how you got here."
"Got where, Scott?" wonders Grian, his beady eyes wide with confusion. Now Scott looks terrified which is even more confusing to him. "What's going on?"
"I don't know," he says, then watches as Grian's face lights up.
"Oh my gosh, you've got wings!" Grian exclaims happily, and immediately begins to pat at Scotts massive white wings. "Well that's not fair, is it? You'll probably survive the longest if you can fly."
"Grian listen to me. You aren't there anymore."
"What do you mean?" For the first time, Grian actually looks around. He sees the snow and the church, Scott thinks his mind might explode. "What in the— Scott, is this your home!?"
"I'm going to be right back."
"What?" asks Grian as something like panic flashes through his face. "No you can't leave me here."
"I'm just going to be a minute. I need to go talk to someone."
"Take me with you!"
"I can't yet."
"Why not?" cries Grian, and Scott doesn't answer because he doesn't rightly know. Instead his wings unfold and lift up high above his head as Scott points a finger at Grian, which he takes mild offense to.
"Stay," demands Scott, then his wings come down with the force of a bull and he launches into the air. He turns and catapults towards the mountains, diving over their tops.
Minutes later Scott is knocking at Gems door, she doesn't answer. He calls her name. A few seconds later the knob of the door turns by itself and swings open. Inside Gandalf meows at him, then turns and runs away. He follows.
Gandalf leads him up the stairs and to Gem's room. The door is ajar and Scott pushes it all the way open and freezes in the doorway. He sees Gem on her knees a few paces from her bed. She cradles her head in her hands as her cat butts up against her side worriedly.
"Gem?" asks Scott, rushing to her side. He kneels down and puts a hand on her shoulder. She looks up at him miserably.
"Scott."
"What can I do?"
"You wouldn't happen to have a potion of healing on you?" Scott digs in his pockets and finds a flask, pulling it out, he hands it to her and she takes it gratefully. "Thanks."
After taking a drink from it, she blinks her eyes a few times and looks around at her room again. Scott holds out his hands and she takes them. He pulls her to her feet; she falls into him and he throws her arm over his shoulder.
