19.
“Come on, Minji. Stand up. You’ve been laying on your bed all day. You have to see the sun for a few minutes at least.” Haerin said as she was trying her best to pull out the tall girl from her bed.
However, Minji didn't move an inch as she was looking at her best friend soullessly. She was determined to confess to Hanni at first. But everytime she tried to reach the little one, the Australian girl would come up with suspicious excuses to not see Minji which led the Korean girl to think she missed her chances.
“Don’t you see I’m dying inside?” She said in such a monotonous voice that it felt scarily dramatic.
Haerin rolled her eyes. “You're literally exaggerating things.”
“I’m not ! She’s been avoiding me for a week now. Even this morning ! She refused to see me when I called her. She probably got tired of me. Maybe Hyein was right, someone else made a move before me. I lost my soulmate… my life is meaningless….” Minji started overthinking out loud.
“You’re imagining things. She’s probably just really busy.” Haerin insisted.
“Haerin you don't understand. Hanni is literally incapable of lying. I know she was lying everytime she refused to meet me just by the sound of her voice. There must be something. Maybe I said or did something I shouldn't I don't know…”
“But-”
Minji cut her off before Haerin could express her thoughts. “I’m still going to tell her how I feel when I get the opportunity but honestly… I’m starting to think I missed the train already.”
Haerin frowned. “Since when did you become so pessimistic ? You’re always trying to turn your love life into a tragedy.” Haerin sighed. “You need to change your idea. Come over to Danielle with me today if you want.”
“How seeing you being all lovey-dovey with her is supposed to make me feel better ?” Minji said sarcastically. “Let me mourn in peace.”
Haerin rolled her eyes once more. “Fine, do as you wish. I’m sure it's just a misunderstanding but whatever. I gotta go.”
Then, without waiting for an answer the cat-like girl bid goodbye to her friend and left the dorms.
While driving to her girlfriend’s house, Haerin stopped by a flower shop and bought a bouquet of peonies. By the time she arrived in Danielle's neighborhood, the sky was already darkening outside.
As she reached Danielle’s apartment, she saw a woman coming out of it. Haerin froze into place when she saw her face, she didn't have to know who it was to be stroked by the obvious resemblance of that lady with Danielle. It could only be her mom.
Mrs. Marsh also stopped right in her tracks when she noticed Haerin. The two of them looked at each other for a few moments before Haerin politely bowed down to greet the old lady. Mrs Marsh continued to look at her curiously, her eyes going from Haerin’s face to the flowers in her hand.
“May I ask you who you are to my daughter?” .
Haerin thought of her answer for a few seconds. She could feel Mrs. Marsh’s intense gaze on her. It felt like she could see through Haerin, like she already knew everything.
And indeed, Mrs. Marsh knew exactly who Haerin was. Danielle stopping to hook up suddenly didn't escape people's attention and rumors started to spread about her getting in a serious relationship. Obviously, people didn't think that Haerin was that mystery person since pretty much everybody thought that Danielle was completely straight. However, the rumors found their ways to Mrs. Marsh ears who made her little investigation on the topic and found out about Haerin. She also searched for the Korean girl's background so her question was more of a test than anything else.
