"And so I said 'You're telling me a shrimp fried this rice?'!"
The laughter of two girls echoed throughout the underpass.
"I swear it's always the puns with you Kat."
"You can't blame me Izu it gets them every time!"
The sudden sound metallic ringing caused the two girls to turn around but we're only met with a manhole cover that had been moved out of place. The blonde girl, who was nearly a head taller than her green haired friend and much more physically inclined by her appearance, stepped towards the manhole with curiosity.
"Kat I don't know if that's a good idea," her friend said nervously and reached back to pull her away. Perhaps it was coincidence that the greenette glaced upward or maybe it was her instincts that made her but either way she was met with a green slime that was quickly falling towards them. The panic was visible on her face as she pushed her friend out of the way. "Run!"
"Too late kiddies I can't let either of you get away!"
A mouth full of jagged yellow teeth appeared from the slime that enveloped the green haired girl. It smiled cruelly as two beady eyes suddenly appeared and trained themselves on the blonde who had stumbled out of the way.
She turned to meet his eyes with fiery rage and the palms of her hand crackled with the beginnings of miniature explosions. "Let her go!"
"No can do," the slime emitted a foul smell that made her want to gag whenever it opened it's mouth, "you see I need her to play the role of my hero for a bit and let me use her."
The slime made a display is wrapping itself around the greenette in a fashion that threatened to choke her if it got too tight. It smiled viscously as it watched the blonde squirm with rage but never make a move out of fear, "Careful now one wrong move and you'll have to drag home a corpse kiddo! Then again unless she can hold her breath for a few hours I doubt you'll bring home anything else..."
The teen the slime was holding hostage yanked her head free and shouted, "Flash!"
The slime glanced inward at the girl and rescued his hold on her with a much tighter grip. It smiled in satisfaction when it felt her struggle for air. Yet when it looked back at the other teen to make a snide remark it saw a confident smirk before being blinded by a bright light.

"Hey Kat you know how your explosions make light right?"
It was just another afternoon after school when Izumi had gotten into her mumbling state of Quirk theory and Katsumi nodding along when the greenette suddenly stopped in her tracks and asked the question.
"Yeah and a lot of smoke too why?" Katsumi had never really given much thought to her own Quirk before she had always left that sort of thing to the resident expert beside herself.
Izumi grinned, "Try making an explosion but condense it and focus more on making it loud and bright more than anything else."
Katsumi closed her eyes in concentration and felt the familiar sensation of sweat building up in her palms. If she wanted a powerful explosion she would need more sweat but she wanted it to be loud and bright. So instead of pooling it all in the middle of her palms wouldn't it be better to spread it thinner? That way it was still strong but held less power than her normal explosions.
"You say I mumble all the time but it looks like you do too," Izumi giggled.
Katsumi's concentration broke at the laughter and she accidentally released the explosion. The good news was that it was certainly loud and bright. The bad news was that now she couldn't see anything and the noises of the world were drowned out by a piercing ring.

Izumi had noticed the solution during the brief staredown between her best friend and the creeping slime that was slowly inspecting every inch of her body. She hated the cold and sticky feeling it enveloped her in as it carassed her and she wanted to cry in both fear and disgust. Yet she shoved those emotions out of the way for now and focused on getting herself out of it first. All she needed was to see the slime but it kept her head straight aimed towards her friend in a sickening display of power and superiority. She was lucky most of Japan's underpasses had the safety mirrors installed in them after the rise in assults within the past decade. Just a quick glance upward and you could see everything behind you. So Izumi put all her trust in Katsumi and cried out one of the "hero moves" they had come up with together, and she didn't fail to deliver.
Line of sight was a rather vague requirement in order to activate a Quirk. That could mean anything from direct eye contact to being able to have a brief glance no matter the target. Izumi had discovered that her own Quirk was the later, or rather she accidentally discovered it after she tore up her favorite All Might jacket when she was younger by looking at it through a mirror. Mutation quirks were similar in the fact that they could range from any number of things. Slimes, based on her knowledge from the games and manga Katsumi had insisted they play and read together, had incredible regenerative abilities. As long as their "core" wasn't destroyed or damaged. Assuming that the slime's core was where it's beady eyes and foul mouth were it would be okay as long as that part was still intact.
Izumi felt the slime's grip temporarily loosen and was ever so glad that she chose to wear black bandages, she would never admit it was a fashion choice after seeing Katsumi gush over a character with black bandages. She ripped off her bandages and glared into the mirror at the slime parts that bound her in place. In that moment she saw a nervous smile on her face and recognized it as the same one Katsumi always had whenever they sparred, it was the excitement of a desperate situation where one was forced to grow and overcome in order to survive.
